Publisher's summary

In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called "brilliants," and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in - and betray his own kind.

From Marcus Sakey, "a modern master of suspense" (Chicago Sun-Times) and "one of our best storytellers" (Michael Connelly), comes an adventure that’s at once breakneck thriller and shrewd social commentary; a gripping tale of a world fundamentally different and yet horrifyingly similar to our own, where being born gifted can be a terrible curse.

Excellent story

What a twist at the end and very reverent to today’s climate both political and social

Brilliant Book

If you could sum up Brilliance in three words, what would they be?

Intelligent. Intriguing. Intense.

What other book might you compare Brilliance to and why?

Influx by Daniel Suarez. They have a similar theme, and if you enjoyed one, you would probably like the other.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like him in the Iron Druid series, and I think he did great with this as well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, and the two-eyed man must be controlled...or destroyed.

Any additional comments?

I wish I could listen to it for the first time all over again.

Great story, amazing narrator

The story is great from beginning to end. Lots of action, details, realistic portrayal of people in power with prejudices against those they are threatened by. The narrator was so good, it was almost distracting. I kept being surprised by each additional unique voice he came up with. Very refreshing after having many books ruined by a really bad narrator. I'm definitely going to add Marcus Sakey and Luke Daniels to my favorites.

enjoyed it, the 1st half more than the 2nd half though, as the story became more predictable.

Loved it!

What did you love best about Brilliance?

I don't read much fiction, but I decided to take a stab at some entertainment when this gem appeared as a daily deal in my Inbox. I was immediately intrigued by the summary and added Brilliance to my library; I'm glad that I did. Marcus Sakey does an amazing job of creating and engulfing us into an alternate reality that seems 100% plausible and realistic. Think of this story as a more realistic version of the X-men world.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was engaging from beginning to end. The story was not big, nor outstanding, on the action sequences, but you're never given the impression of filler portions. Every part of the book comes across as crucial to the plot.

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

Luke Daniels was "brilliant". He did a great job differentiating between the characters, making them all very believable. Luke also did an outstanding job differentiating the narrative pieces, character dialogue, and the character's conscience- which was crucial to the main character's special ability.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The world as thought of by you?.. or another?

Any additional comments?

I can't wait for the second installment of the saga, and I strongly hope that the film does the story justice.

The narrator is fantastic! Story New refreshment.

The narrator is amazing! Sometimes it's hard to tell that it's just 1 person! I'm a definite fan of this narrator! I'm going for the next installment. I have high hopes that the story will continue to interest me. The story buts u into an alternative reality. That's the unmistakable mark of a great book! Enjoy!
