Always captivating ‼️

I am hooked on the Travis McGee character. I look forward to listening to all of these books. It is amazing how the author can resolve such a hopeless situation without a true deus ex machina to help out the helpless good guy. I always feel bad for Travis, he works so hard at beating himself up while fighting the good battle…. The narrator does an excellent job of getting into Travis‘s brain… he is portrayed like a real person with needs and character flaws. If I beat myself up the way he does I don’t know how I would get out of bed every day… But there He is always ready to fight the good fight even though he pays the price by getting Wounded and narrowly escaping death❗️ Maybe I’m easily impressed but I am always in awe of the way the author spins his tale and I look forward to the next book on audible‼️

Fun to listen to

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Fun to listen to since I remember reading the books in the original books like going back to 1968 all over again.

It is fun to spot the clues that this was written

a long time ago. No cell phones, a dime for a phone call, $40,000 buys a luxury home, being able to store items in the locker of a bus station for a week, $75 is an expensive hotel room, and so on.That said, Travis is a great character and each book just makes me a bigger fan.
The narrator is perfect. I hope he did all 21 books.

He did it!

Trav was finally the man he has claimed to be!

I'm finally more happy with John MacDonald's character. It was a tough haul to cover this many books to finally get to the chivalrous man he claimed to be in book one.

Would I recommend the series? With reservations. The sex, drugs and violence are core to the stories. These are my typical type of book but I have enjoyed the snapshot of the 1960s. If the reader is mature and can focus on the story apart from the in depth physical descriptions of EVERY female in the story, then ok. Otherwise, there are better books that don't encourage womanizing behavior.

One of His Best

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Great book.

What did you like best about this story?

The villain

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Travis

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, the scene of the villain raping Vivian. Man, what a bad guy!

Any additional comments?

To me this is one of JDM's best, but unfortunately, the narrator mispronounced a few words that we Floridians know well. It would have helped to have a true Floridian listen to it before releasing it.

Not credible.

Weakest of the Travis McGee series that I have read or listened to and I have read nearly all. Leave this one on the shelf. Unlikely to waltz into country club and forge relationship with lawyer's wife and became worse from there. John Macdonald must have spent all afternoon writing this one.

Terrible

I listened to the first 30 minutes of book and that was enough for me. I could not bear to listen to anymore. This will be my first and last purchase of a "Travis McGee" book. Don't bother going there...
