Publisher's summary

Dick Francis was a jockey and horse trainer for many years. His experience gives his equestrian mysteries an authenticity that has attracted fans around the globe. To honor him, the Mystery Writers of America named Dick Francis a Grand Master for his impeccably crafted contributions to the genre.

Jockey Kit Fielding has been riding the de Brescou’s horses in a succession of triumphs on the race course. But this winning streak is about to end. Kit’s twin sister, Holly, has come to him in desperation. Threatened by financial scandal, she and her husband may lose their training stables. Kit soon finds, though, that a greater danger lurks behind the threat—one that could be fatal.

Good story; great narrator!

This is typical Dick Francis stuff. Clever plot, perhaps a bit drawn out but mostly edge of your seat stuff. But the best part of these audiobooks is Simon Prebble. I go out of my way to check out his work and this is among the best. All the good narrators do voice parts well - I can't imagine being able to do that! But Prebble is amazing and keeps it "listenable" too. Highly recommended.

Always enjoyable, Dick Francis

Good story and flourish of the English horse racing steeplechase. The overall story has all of the right components.

Excellent English Mystery

This book from Dick Francis is well written and quite enjoyable. The beginning is a bit slow but it’s an introduction worth taking your time. The characters are well balanced and nice gentle Brits, except for one or two (or more)!
The performance is flawless. Simon seems to be in the minds of the characters and proceeds to share with us through voice inflection and or cadence.
Highly recommended.

the bad guys lose

Kit Fielding is the typical Dick Francis hero. Though he is not from a prominent family, he's a morally good, caring person, plus he's highly intelligent and outwits the enemies in a very satisfying manner.

Riveting

It is a fun book. I couldn't sleep until i had finished. Narration is perfect. The ending was a bit rushed and storyline compressed, however I may think that because i wanted the story to continue.

Great book!

Great story. Exciting. Good performance. Suspence, twists and turns. Makes me want to listen to another Dick Francis novel.
