Publisher's Summary

Technology has advanced in 2060 New York City, but childbirth has been the same since the beginning of time. And despite the brutal double homicide on Lieutenant Eve Dallas' caseload, she has to be there for her pregnant friend, Mavis, even if it means throwing the dreaded baby shower.

But Mavis needs an even bigger favor now. Tandy Willowby, one of the moms-to-be in her class, has gone missing, just days before her due date - not even showing up at the shower at Eve and Roarke's place that she'd been looking forward to so much. A recent emigrant from London, Tandy has few friends in New York, and no family. When Eve enters Tandy's apartment and finds Mavis' shower gift wrapped and ready on the table - and Tandy's packed hospital bag still on the floor - her spine starts tingling.

Normally, this would be turned over to Missing Persons. Eve has more than enough on her plate trying to find out who murdered Natalie Copperfield and her fiancé, both employed at a highly prestigious accounting firm. But Mavis wants no one but Eve on the case - and Eve can't say no. She'll have to track Tandy down while tracing the deals and double-crosses hidden in the files of some of the city's richest and most secretive citizens, in a race against a particularly vicious killer.

Luckily, she has her multimillionaire husband Roarke's expertise to help with the numbers-crunching. But as he mines for the crucial data that will break the case wide open, Eve faces an all-too-real danger in the flesh-and-blood world.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

What the Critics Say

"The audio skips smoothly along, connecting subplots blithely, and Susan Ericksen never misses a beat." (AudioFile)

    "I loved it."

Classic Nora -- fantasy, mystery, love, and suspense, all wrapped up with a ridiculously happy ending. The narrator does a great job and it's just great, fun, escape.

    "Another Great Dallas Story"
If you could sum up Born in Death in three words, what would they be?

Dallas and Rorke continue to evolve, and Mavis gives birth, while another killer is brought down. What more is there to say? :)

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

I have listened to the entire series up to this point, and Susan is outstanding in almost all of them. There was one or two titles where she seemed to lose her rhythm, but she is back on track here. Her use of separate voices for each character makes it easy to picture the conversation going on, and help keep the story flowing without the constant

    Any additional comments?

If you love the Dallas series, this one will make you happy. If you are not familiar with the series, you should probably start back at volume 1. Though each title mostly stands on its own, there is a definite progression of the characters and their relationships, and the story makes more sense with that background.

I like this book a lot because Mavis plays a bigger role in this one. It's an interesting story. Worth the time and the credit.

I am a retired Court Reporter and I LOVE books. All kinds of books but my favorites are mysteries and period books. I like civil war books and some biographies.

    "For Mavis lovers!"

This is another winner!! It was good to have a book focus on Mavis Freestone. JD Robb was able to take a gut wrenching and interweave comic relief. Highly recommended!

    "Excellent Book!"

I'm a big fan of this series and with a few exceptions, every book has been good and well worth the read. This one had one of best story lines of any I've read so far and didn't go into Eve's childhood too deeply.

"One of my favorites in the series"
Would you listen to Born in Death again? Why?

I loved this book because of the mix of mystery and laughter. So touching to hear the parts where Eve connects to her 'softer' side with Mavis.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Born in Death?

The end..don't want to give it away but so touching.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Susan does such a good job portraying the characters!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh and cry and literally gave me goosebumps at certain touching moments.

    "Yay, Mavis!"

Just Love this book. The story is great, per usual, and we finally get to meet Bella.
I do not think the narration could be any better. Susan Erickson has these characters pinned.great story, lots of fun.

    "Great Story, problem with sound"

This is one of my favorites in this series, such a good mystery, with Mavis' pregnancy and new baby to add to the fun. But there's an odd hollowness to the sound through the entire recording - nothing to do with Susan Ericksen's narration - just something different in the production end.

    "Loved it."

Loved this story a friend of Mavis goes missing and Eve promises her she'll try and find her. A couple of accountants are murdered and Eve has to try and solve this case as well as the missing person, and on top of all that Eve has to hold a baby shower for Mavis and the baby is born. Truly a full book
