Publisher's summary

When English agent Gene Hawkins told his boss he'd forego his vacation to search for millionaire Dave Teller's prized missing stallion, he didn't know his retainer would include the attention of his boss's beautiful teenage daughter - or Teller's seldom sober wife. He also didn't know that a trail from London to New York to Las Vegas to California would lead eventually to murder.

Standard Dick Francis

An earlier work and a bit dated but typical of his racehorse centered stories. Always something to be learned in his books.

Well Read...

Was pleasantly surprised, oddly enough, to discover a main character that suffers from depression.
Honest. Real. Believable.
Nicely done.

sad but engrossing

I prefer Simon Prebble or Martin Jarvis as narrators, otherwise a good read. Somewhat depressing ending.

A great suspenseful story, beautifully written

I can't say it's my favorite Dick Francis, mainly because I didn't love the protagonist. He was fine, a nice respectable man, but not as endearing as some of his other characters like Sid Halley or Kit Fielding who just happen to fall into the mystery. This protagonist actually creates the predicament. Perhaps it was also because this narrator is much drier than Simon Prebble, you don't feel his passion, however this narrator does fit the personality of the protagonist, so it works.

This story is more suspenseful than most, actually creating some anxiety at times, and I loved how it takes you around the globe. Truly there isn't a bad Dick Francis novel, so I would recommend this as a good "listen".

Interesting views on depression

The mystery is intriguing but the underlying story of the character and how he deals with depression make the story more interesting.

A Delightful Version

Read this as a paperback years ago and it was great then, but this audible version is twice as good. The Blood Sport narration by Geoffrey Howard gives the novel much more dimension and atmosphere in an energetic and complicated plot, For anyone who enjoys British mysteries, American locations and well-drawn characters, this audible version of Blood Sport is a delightful experience.

Dick Francis is Truly Remarkable

Francis has written so many books around the horse racing business but they are not cookie-cutter versions of each other. Each one is fresh and interesting and very enjoyable.

Thanks, Dick, it's a great ride.

Dry as a Bone

Would you try another book from Dick Francis and/or Geoffrey Howard?

I have been an avid Dick Francis fan for years but this book was just dry, depressing and boring. Geoffrey Howard's excellent narration is the only reason I listened until the end.

Complicated, realistically ambivalent protagonist

I hadn't read this title before. It was one of the few Dick Francis books I hadn't encountered as a 3D book, or a recorded one. The narrator was good, but I am pretty devoted to Simon Prebble's interpretation of Dock Francis' books.

As with some other series, I wish Audible had all of them.
