Publisher's summary

The ultimate secret. The ultimate agent. The President's vampire. Zach Barrows is an ambitious young White House staffer whose career takes an unexpected turn when he's partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the President. But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound by a special blood oath, he is a vampire. Cade battles nightmares before they can break into the daylight world of the American dream, enemies far stranger-and far more dangerous-than civilians have ever imagined. Blood Oath is the first in a series of novels featuring Nathaniel Cade-the President's vampire.

A villain, vampire and a President walk into a bar

If you could sum up Blood Oath in three words, what would they be?

Creative Engaging and Familiar

What other book might you compare Blood Oath to and why?

I would compare it to the Monster Hunters International series by Larry Correia because it has a supernatural theme, a cool hero team (vampire and career politician) and deals with the end of the world. What more could you ask for?

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His ability to capture charters with an audible voice. I have read several books that I have listened to Mr. Pinchot narrate and I hear his voice for the characters as I read them. He is fantastic.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Only a smile of joy that I had a viable alternative to the Monster Hunters International series.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next installment. Somewhat predicable but fun just the same.

Thoroughly Enjoyed

First time reading a book by Christopher Farnsworth...I was not disappointed.

Bronson Pinchot's narration was top notch as usual.

I would recommend this book if you enjoy stories of the supernatural.

Unimpressed with Pinchot

I debated between giving a 2 or 3 star rating. The story is interesting, so I decided to go with a 3. The way it's told is less impressive, although I can't decide if the problem is the actual writing on Pinchot's narration. Bronson Pinchot tends to provide very whiny, irritating voices to a lot of the dialogue. His choices are not at all anything I would have "heard" when reading the book in print, and and are very distracting. The story itself was interesting in concept, but the characters are shallow and stereotypical. The antagonists, in particular, tend towards a rather cookie-cutter sameness -- all but twirling their mustaches and practicing their evil laughs.

I really enjoyed this book.

Any additional comments?

The book and series was really enjoyable, although the action scenes were at a minimal. It was more of a mystery, but still worth the money and time.

Bloody good start to a new series

An enjoyable start to a new series. Truly enjoyed the new take on the classic movie monsters and the impact and interaction in a post 9/11 world seemed very believable in the story telling. Downside it took me a while to get over the narrator's voice but once I got sucked into the story I didn't even notice or mind how irritating some of the characters' voices were.

Second Impression

Any additional comments?

I first read Killfile by the same author and thought it pretty good brain candy. So I was glad the author had more books and bought this one. Definitely not as good...Farnsworth has grown as a writer between the two books. I'd consider buying any new releases but have no desire, based on Blood Oath, to read the other two books in that series.

An adult book, made Nickelodeon by narrator...

The narrator's nasally, whiny voice ruins would-be complex characters. I wouldn't let this guy read a grocery list out loud.
