As the seasons change and the years roll, Lil stays steadfast to her dreams of becoming a wildlife biologist and protecting her family land, while Coop struggles with his father's demand that he attend law school and join the family firm. Twelve years after they walked together hand in hand, fate has brought them back to the Black Hills when people and things they hold most dear need them most.
An investigator in New York, Coop recently left his fast-paced life to care for his aging grandparents and the ranch he has come to call home. Though the memory of his touch still haunts her, Lil has let nothing stop her dream of opening the Chance Wildlife Refuge, but something . . . or someone . . . has been keeping a close watch. When small pranks and acts of destruction escalate into the heartless killing of Lil's beloved cougar, recollections of an unsolved murder in these very hills have Coop springing to action to keep Lil safe.
Lil and Coop both know the natural dangers that lurk in the wild landscape of the Black Hills. But now they must work together to unearth a killer of twisted and unnatural instincts who has singled them out as prey.

There were elements of the characters that I didn't particularly like but I was easily able to get over that and concentrate on this lovely little story about teenage love.
Wonderful love story and fantastic mystery. From beginning to end it keeps you no the edge of your seat. Really enjoyed this listening to this. All the characters are great and the interactions make this a wonderful read/listening experience.
Well read, and engaging. I just wasn't expecting a romance novel. Once hearts started throbbing and the sex scenes started I realised. I wouldn't have bought this book had I known it was a romance novel, but I listened through the whole thing. It has elements of thriller, but that is really a side show to the love stories.
If you want a love story with steamy sex scenes, this is the story for you.
I found the story boring and predictable. I fastforwarded most of the relationship bits, which get tiresome after awhile and have no relevance to the plot. I would not recommend this book.
PS. I did like the narrator, nothing wrong with him in my opinion.
In the 19 years that I have been listening to audio books, this narrator is at the top of my "worst narrators" list. He seems to excell at making a book boring. I will never purchase another book with this narrator.
I agree with the previous reviewer. I REALLY enjoyed this book. And only because of that, was I able to put up with this so called narrator. He read with hardly any emotion, or inflection whatsoever. In addition, you could barely tell the difference between characters. How frustrating for that to happen to a listener. I wish audible would allow reviews of audio books on a two-fold system. One for the book, and one for the narrator. I will never listen to another book from this narrator. I'm just happy this story was so good that I didn't totally feel I wasted my money.
