Not a writer, a writer wannabe, editor, lit maj, or pretend literary critic. Just an avid reader/listener. My ratings are opinion only.

    Story
"Graphic, that seemed a little gratuitous."

The story was great... that said I felt it was too bogged down by the detailed barbarities. I don't expect an author to sugar coat things. I fully understand the need to convey concepts that are unimaginable, even disturbing. However, scenes of violence and inhumanity, much like scenes of sex can easily cross over from being descriptive to unnecessarily explicit, vulgar.

I did enjoy the story, it was not predictable or implausable. Although another reviewer remarked on the cliche of prostitutes and drug addicts, this is an unfortunate statistical fact. It was a good listen overall, but buyer beware.

I mostly listen to books while exercising, which pretty much explains all of the action/thrillers on my list.

    "Creepy, but good"

This is a very gross story, but it is very well done and you definitely get caught up in Jack Caffrey, the main police character. For whatever reason, I tend to like this stuff, but I definitely would not recommend it for the faint of heart.

    "Intense!"
What did you love best about Birdman?

The intensity that just kept on going.... I didnt want to put it down!

What does Damien Goodwin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Changing of his voice helped to keep following along.

    Any additional comments?

There were several unexpected twists and turns with this book, and even the entrance a new charachter mid way through really made you think!

    Story
    "My first for this author"

Was recommended to this author by friend. Story was ok-nothing terribly unique-just another freaking sicko. The narrators was ok. my biggest issue was the time spacing. In a handheld book , in a chapter where there are breaks to change the scene or people that break is obvious- in an audio book it is the narrator and the director that determine that correct pause. This was the biggest issue with this book. You are listening and all of a sudden you realize you are hearing about a totally different character or scenario but there was no or way too short of a pause, so short its unrecognizable.

It wasn't so bad I wouldn't listen to the next in the series.
