From award-winning author, Aaron Paul Lazar:
Marcella Hollister realized a lifetime of hopes and dreams when she was given custody of a child. A cousin of her half-Seneca husband, Quinn, the baby's mother was murdered in a political plot - and Marcella, who's never been able to have children of her own, formed an instant bond with little Kimi.
Then a distant relative comes forward to claim Kimi - and Quinn, who Marcella thought understood her pain better than anyone, allows them to take the baby without a fight.
Confused and deeply wounded, Marcella takes off for Tall Pines, their secluded Adirondack cabin. She hopes the peace and natural beauty of the mountains will help clear her head and decide whether to forgive Quinn... or leave him.
But the situation at Tall Pines is anything but peaceful. Her high school lover, Sky, arrives to help out - and Marcella discovers her old feelings may not be as distant as she thought. Worse, a serial killer is stalking young women in the area. And when a teen girl whose mother works with Sky goes missing, Marcella and everyone she cares for wind up dead center in the killer's sights.

I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will be watching for this author in the future.
* I was provided a free copy of this book from AudioBookBlast for an honest review.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends because the mystery changes and turns, which keeps you riveted through the chapters.
I liked the change in directions the book takes, from sad, to desperate, to fearful, and back around to love the best.
This book kept me captivated throughout the twists and turns. I couldn't put it down!

I am a fun loving mom that enjoys a great Book!! I'm happy to have Audible with a busy life it makes it so easy to still get lost in a book!
I just wish I would've paid attention & realized it IS BOOK NUMBER 4!! So I need to get books 1-3 then I'll redo my review!! NO MATTER WHAT IT'S STILL AMAZING!! I ALWAYS LOVE Aaron Paul Lazar's Books!! Gwendolyn Druyor did an AMAZING JOB AS WELL!!
Let's just start with what would have made a 3 start impression first, before we move to 4-5 stars.
1. Marcella: What a huge spoiled, selfish, thoughtless brat...Yes, I would be heartbroken if I lost my daughter, and I would be angry with my spouse if he supported it but to run away without letting him explain exactly why he didn't try to fight the removal of Kimi just rubbed me the wrong way. I guess I don't like people who run from their problems. Don't even want to go over the love "triangle" potential, hello, if you're in a committed relationship then you need to be committed to it, yes if super-hot ex-boyfriend is still your friend you don't kiss him or drool over him. I get it if you remember the past but you should bloody well leave it there or get out of your relationship/ get a hell of a lot of therapy
2. What is with the essential oil thing, it was a fricking advertisement for Young Living essential oils, WTF? Yes, I like essential oils and I agree with using them and that there is so much research out there that the allopathic medical establishment should look at; they should also look at vitamins for treating illnesses like the flu, cancer etc. I felt like my mind was going to explode when I kept hearing about her using her “Young Living” oils,, oh, I'm going to use my Young Living essential oils for stress...oh, I'm going to use the orange lavender Young Living oils blah blah blah (paraphrasing because I tried to wipe this from my mind), we get it, you like Young Living now STOP referring to it over and over again…the brand could have been mentioned once when explaining Skye’s research and how he met and was helped by Dr. Young and maybe one other time, this amount was overkill.
3. Quinn: Hello, FIGHT for your family a little more. I would have fought tooth and nail to keep Kimi, including having the other family investigated before I would have rolled over and played dead. Yes, I know there are laws governing Native children, my dad is 1/16th Choctaw, which makes me 1/32 on the blood quantum chart because my mother’s family is completely European. I would love to see treaty rights be enforced and support the struggle the Sioux nation is having in Minnesota as far as fishing and wild rice harvesting, just to name a few, however, I don’t believe a child should go to a set of people just because that person has “some” blood connection to another group, especially if it’s only tenuous at best. I know it is a reality backed by the law but it made me hopping mad.Yes, Quinn came to Tall Pines to find her, and Marcella was the one shutting him down more often than not but oi, this just frustrated me.
Good things about this book:I liked the plot twist, the crazy bad guy, and the supporting cast. The descriptions of the area made me want to see it very badly. Maybe if I had a hard copy of the book I could get into it more, I had a problem with the narration, I found it forced more often than not.
I would rate this book with 2.5 stars, instead of just the 2 stars but it's not an option.
No, I would even give the other books in this series a chance, there was enough interesting pieces to this book for me to want to give them a chance. I love the cover art of some of the other books, too.

I really like "The Tall Pines " series by this author. The Native American vs. white culture or the similarities using natural healing. The romance, adventure and mystery was quite entertaining.
The narration was well done.
