Thriller Award for Best Hard Cover Novel, 2011

The brilliant new Virgil Flowers thriller from the number-one New York Times-best-selling author.

One late fall Sunday in southern Minnesota, a farmer brings a load of soybeans to a local grain elevator - and a young man hits him on the head with a steel bar, drops him into the grain bin, waits until he's sure he's dead, and then calls the sheriff to report the "accident". Suspicious, the sheriff calls in Virgil Flowers, who quickly breaks the kid down...and the next day the boy's found hanging in his cell.

Remorse? Virgil isn't so sure, and as he investigates he begins to uncover a multigeneration, multifamily conspiracy - a series of crimes of such monstrosity that, though he's seen an awful lot in his life, even he has difficulty in comprehending it...and in figuring out what to do next.

Critic reviews

“Flowers is a fun character, smart and honest with a healthy supply of cynicism and snark...a thoroughly engaging, suspenseful, satisfying story.” (The Washington Examiner)

“Sandford’s exciting fourth thriller to feature Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent Virgil Flowers. [His] biggest...case to date.” (Publishers Weekly)

"A Pandora’s box of multiple murders, criminal behavior…and revelations of deviancy that go back generations. As usual, Sandford delivers a great mystery with action, suspense, humor, and, yes, sex. Virgil always gets his man, but he also gets the girl. Good reading.” (Booklist)

Virgil Flowers is one if my favorite characters

I read the book and then followed with the Audible version. As usual, the first killing turns about to be a pretty small event as an intriguing series of criminal activities unfold. Very entertaining.

Minnesota locale for a change!

Excellent crime/detective novel, with locations drawn from mid-western Minnesota. Virgil Flowers is a Minnesota BCA agent originating as a spin-off from the Lucas Davenport series.

Another Good Virgil Flowers Book

An entertaining listen. The Narrator does a good job and is very easy to listen to. I've read every Virgil Flowers book Sandford has written and enjoyed them all. If you like an interesting story line with good characters, this is a good choice.

Another solid hit!

I have been reading John Sandford for years, when I accidentally walked into a B&N during a scheduled book signing. I love how well he develops all of his characters and creates such realistic (because they're based on real locations) settings. This is another solid Virgil Flowers novel! I won't give any spoilers, but really enjoyed the story, in fact really got me thinking about how tight (and potentially devious) very small communities are, and the thought went through my mind ... hmm, could it really happen? Not two days later, I was flipping through the tv, and came across an old Little House on the Prairie episode, and was SHOCKED at how similar that community was to the "small town" that Virgil was dealing with in this book. Made me think of "Little House" in a whole different light!

Good story well performed

Interesting story, good hero. Evil cult story, but doesn't denigrate all religion. Some very exciting violent scenes and scary justice scenes.

Un narrateur sans inflexion de la voix

Where does Bad Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Tout est bon. Sauf qu'on se perd dans l'histoire à cause du fait que narrateur est sans inflexion de la voix lorsqu'il récite le texte de la policière. On en perd le fil conducteur.

Unamazing

I kept wondering when this one would end. Despite the fact that the author successfully provides some rather shockingly vivid details involved with the story. There is not much else to it. The characters themselves did not stand up on their own. This left me disappointed. And what kind of name is "Flowers" for a detective?
