Publisher's summary

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, before he was thought of as a terrorist's worst nightmare, and before he was both loathed and admired by the politicians on Capitol Hill, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world...and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA operations director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches America's shores. Stansfield directs his protégé, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague Stan Hurley to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of command - men who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

Six months of intense training has prepared him to bring the war to the enemy's doorstep, and he does so with brutal efficiency. Rapp starts in Istanbul, where he assassinates the Turkish arms dealer who sold the explosives used in the Pan Am attack. Rapp then moves on to Hamburg with his team and across Europe, leaving a trail of bodies. All roads lead to Beirut, though, and what Rapp doesn't know is that the enemy is aware of his existence and has prepared a trap. The hunter is about to become the hunted, and Rapp will need every ounce of skill and cunning if he is to survive the war-ravaged city and its various terrorist factions.

Includes the first chapter from Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills' latest thriller, Enemy of the State!

First exposure to Vince Flynn. WOW!!

What other book might you compare American Assassin to and why?

So very much like Brad Thor and Clancy but with some funny characters that just drip with the GI smart@$$ness I use to deal with in the Army. I cracked up so many times it made my side hurt.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Even though he is an older narrator. He really does help to make the characters come alive. I like his animated way of reading.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES... YES.... YES... If I did not have to work to pay for these audiobooks I would have finished it in one day.

Any additional comments?

I will be getting the rest of these, either in book or audiobook. Fantastic writing and I am excited to read the rest of the series.

Vince Flynn & George Guidall : Always flawless!!

George Guidall could make an econ book sound interesting - but give him Mitch Rapp, in his early years even better, and the you won't be able to stop listening. This book explains in detail the who, what, when, where, how and why of Mitch Rapp and his early beginnings and training.
This is the book to get.

My Introduction to Mitch Rapp and I am Hooked!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was an excellent thriller. It was the first Mitch Rapp series book I listened to and thus far is my favorite. Excellent story and excellent narration by George Guidall.

I really like the flow of the book and enjoyed learning how Mitch came to be in the line of work he is.

Which scene was your favorite?

No spoilers! Just listen to the book!

Movie

The movie trailer for this book is disappointing at best. Encourage those you know to read or listen to the book first!

Love! Love! LOVED IT!!

I was enthralled from beginning to end! George Guidall is the best narrator!! He did every voice perfectly! I could listen to him narrate anything! Such an exciting story too!, There was just enough description of people, places, things and backgrounds to keep my interest! I'm sad I'm done. GREAT BOOK!

Great Narration, decent story

Would you listen to American Assassin again? Why?

Maybe, I am not much for reading/listening to a book again unless it is amazing. This was a good listen. I may want to visit it again down the road.

What other book might you compare American Assassin to and why?

To a Jason Bourne novel if he had a more developed rookie story. They both seem cut from the same cloth in terms of tragedy and giving their life over to the mission as a result.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like his gruff voice and his range. He kept me very interested in the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't kill Lacrosse star's girlfriends, or they will become a spy and hunt you down.

My favorite assasin

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely would recommend American Assassin to anyone who enjoys a good expionage thriller story. Awesome introduction to a fantastic character. I've enjoyed all the Mitch Rapp stories.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

yes, from the very beginning, loved the way they introduced the character and how he was trained. Very cool.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

George has a way of reading the story so that each character comes to life in their own way, it's like living through the Character's eyes. I especially enjoyed the scene of interrogation of Stan Hurley and also the initial meet and greet between Hurley and Mitch Rapp.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the interrogation scene, is amazing, totally brings you in and makes you feel like you are there with him and rooting for him. Gotta read the book to know what I mean. It's amazing, my favorite part of the whole book along with the initial (who's got the bigger balls) showdown, introduction between Stan and Mitch.

Any additional comments?

Just listen to the book already, it's amazing, one of my favorite.

If you could sum up American Assassin in three words, what would they be?

Another Gray Man

What was one of the most memorable moments of American Assassin?

First day on training camp.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

He did a great job with all characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

Great story with good character development and believable plot. Book is addicting, and difficult to stop listening after you started. It gets better and better in the series. America would be a different place without Rapp.
