A serial killer is stalking Virginia’s young lovers, taking their lives and taunting police with a single clue: a jack of hearts. For two years, the meaning of this card has eluded FBI investigators. Better

This book was an improvement over the previous two, though I still find the dialogue often rough. Not good enough to spend a credit on the next book, though. Not invested in the characters enough.

language

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story was ok but seemed to drag a little bit. This could be because there were multiple books in the series and this is the only one I listened to. I was a bit turned off by the bad language. It just seemed pointless to me. I would rather have some kind of warning that the author has such a small vocabulary that they can't write a book without the use of fowl language.

Would you be willing to try another book from Patricia Cornwell? Why or why not?

No.

Robot Benton

Absolutely love Cornwell but the narrator ruined the voice of Wesley Benton...sounds like a child's robot!!! makes me cringe...only thing that ruins the books for me is her robot voice for Benton Hate it!! Otherwise perfect.

Excellent Story!

Any additional comments?

My husband & I have listened to a number of the Scarpetta novels & this was 1 of my favorites! Plenty of mystery, but not so much gore as in later books. An excellent book to listen to on a long journey.

good intro to a new series for me

Always on the hunt for new characters/authors so this was a good find. I will definitely be getting more of Scarpetta.

I expected more

This story started well but got lost in the weeks and was anti-climactic .perhaps you need to be a die-hard Kay Scarpetta fan to enjoy, as nothing really happened..

50/50

This is a decent book, but not the best Scarpetta novel. The performance was good.

Excellent level of excitement throughout

Patricia delivers a consistent level of intrigue, suspense and story connection that keeps the reader interested. She opens up likes of thought for the reader to try and break the case themselves where possible. The performance adds to the interest in the story.
