Publisher's summary

From his grandmother, Alex Cross has heard the story of his great uncle Abraham and his struggles for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan. Now, Alex passes the family tale along to his own children in a novel he's written - a novel called Trial.

As a lawyer in turn-of-the-century Washington, D.C., Ben Corbett represents the toughest cases. Fighting against oppression and racism, he risks his family and his life in the process. When President Roosevelt asks Ben to return to his home town to investigate rumors of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan there, he cannot refuse.

When he arrives in Eudora, Mississippi, Ben meets the wise Abraham Cross and his beautiful daughter, Moody. Ben enlists their help, and the two Crosses introduce him to the hidden side of the idyllic Southern town. Lynchings have become commonplace and residents of the town's black quarter live in constant fear. Ben aims to break the reign of terror - but the truth of who is really behind it could break his heart.

Written in the fearless voice of Detective Alex Cross, Alex Cross's Trial is a gripping story of murder, love, and, above all, bravery.

Interesting - a good listen!

New perspective from James Patterson - much better than all of his recent co-authored titles. A very good read - hard to put down.

Great Story.........Misleading title

This was a great way to tell this period story through Alex Cross' character. However, it should have been titled differently. That's why I couldn't give 5 stars overall. The narrator was very good and the story had me on the edge a few times. Like "The Help", this was an uncomfortable time and even though this is fiction, it draws on real life situations of the time. Read the synopsis first before you buy it. Be prepared to see things another way.

Don't believe the negative reviews,

Great plot, story, characters and narration. The story of 1906 Eudora was amazing. The use of a historical figure in President Theodore Roosevelt was brilliant. The characters of Ben Corbett, The Crosses (Abraham, Moody. Hiram and Ricky) were great even the supporting and minor characters.

The narration brought the story and scene to life vividly. Great job.

I recommend this book it was great. Read or listen to it and judge for yourself. Keep your mind open.

Great story with sweet revenge

I still have trouble understanding such hatred that is portraited in the story but I love how Patterson showed how one person tried to make a change. The readers were great.

I was like, what is this?

I've been listening to the Alex Cross mysteries back to back while commutting to and from work. it makes bumper to bumper traffic not only tolerable but now it's something I actually look forward to. Without reading the descriptions, I just download the next one in the series and drive which is what I did for this book. After about 30 seconds of listening, I was like, "what is this? " Lucky for me I didn't stop the story which was about a topic I would not normally consider reading about but the reader's voice had me immediately hooked. I found myself listening at my desk and at home. I just had to know what happened next.

Success

The book took place in the early 20th century but could have been in the 21st as the story tells of the hypocrisy of this country but maybe giving a hope of the future.

Southern charming and horrifying

I was at first disappointed then pleasantly surprised. Historically accurate and culturally unbiased. Loved it. Finished it really quickly, lol.

Heartbreaking

A terribly heart wrenching reminder of the inhumanity we show toward one another. I pray we learn from our past so we don't repeat it.
