Publisher's summary

A masterpiece of suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning. One man driving, eyes on the road. Another man next to him, telling stories that don’t add up. A woman in the back, silent and worried. And next to her, a huge man with a broken nose, hitching a ride east to Virginia.

An hour behind them, a man lies stabbed to death in an old pumping station. He was seen going in with two others, but he never came out. He has been executed, the knife work professional, the killers vanished. Within minutes, the police are notified. Within hours, the FBI descends, laying claim to the victim without ever saying who he was or why he was there.

All Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia. All he did was stick out his thumb. But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride. He has tied himself to a massive conspiracy that makes him a threat—to both sides at once.

In Lee Child’s white-hot thriller, nothing is what it seems, and nobody is telling the truth. As the tension rises, the twists come fast and furious, keeping readers guessing and gasping until the explosive finale.

A complex and highly original story

Lee Child’s is one of those few writers who blends a remarkable and original narrative with ironic humor. Reacher is a classic anti-hero. He is driven by a profound but untraditional sense of justice. His understated manner and appearance conceal a keen intellect, considerable knowledge and insight.

Dick Hill is brilliant

What did you like best about A Wanted Man? What did you like least?

I loved this performance. The story was so so. Dick Hill's interpretation of Reacher's broken nose speech was hilarious and made the book worth listening to. The story ending was not Lee Child's best nor did it showcase the many abilities of Reacher. On the other hand I can't wait for the next one!

Would you be willing to try another book from Lee Child? Why or why not?

yes, can't wait

Which scene was your favorite?

Pretty much any scene where Sorenson learns how to investigate from Reacher

Was A Wanted Man worth the listening time?

Absolutely

Another Child Thriller

The title is the only thing that could have been better. It's another Jack Reacher tale that's difficult to turn off. Great plot, characters and story. Easy to listen to, usual twists and turns and Reacher's amazing insignificant trivia that continues to make the mighty Reacher the unusual hero that makes him different than others. I can't wait until his next venture comes to life. He's always in the wrong place at the right time.

Reacher to the rescue again!

What made the experience of listening to A Wanted Man the most enjoyable?

Reacher doing the things he does. Explaining to people why he only owns a toothbrush. Intimidating people with his 6'5" size. (Interested to see if 5'7" Tom Cruise can pull that off in the movie version of one of the Reacher books)

What other book might you compare A Wanted Man to and why?

Just about every Lee Child book in the Reacher series.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dick does a lot of books and almost always nails it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

As with all of the Reacher books it was easy to listen to, well researched, and full of twists.

DISAPPOINTED

Enough with the female FBI agents, and home groaned terrorist. Why not some Mexican drug lords? And they were times I could not make what Dick Hill was saying.

Annoying

While I can appreciate staying true to the story, trust me when I tell you, I do not need the narrator to read thru his nasal passages for me to understand and appreciate the story. VERY frustrating and annoying to listen to this for the ENTIRE BOOK!

Jack Reacher makes you proud to be a man!!!

Another excellent Jack Reacher novel. I keep waiting for one of these books to be "not as good" as the last one. Doesn't happen, they keep getting better each and every time.
The story takes a simple car ride and turns it into action filled novel, that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire listen.
Great Story!!!!

As Lee Child lost the plot

This book would probably seem pretty good it it was from some unheard-of author. But, like most of Lee Child's recent books, I think it's unworthy of the author - and the fabulous character he created.
And why he (or Audible) gave up on Jeff Harding - who WAS Jack Reacher - I can't imagine!
Disappointing in every respect. (No, not 'hopeless'. Just 'disappointing'.)
