Publisher's summary

Joining the ranks of Graham Greene and John le Carre, the newest master of international suspense, Daniel Silva has crafted a novel of astonishing intricacy and intelligence.

Sent to Vienna to authenticate a painting, the art restorer and sometime spy Gabriel Allon is sidetracked by a photograph that throws his world upside-down. Could it really be the face of a man who during the last days of World War II had brutalized his mother on the Death March from Auschwitz?

Questions abound when Allon, driven by an intensity he had not felt in years, begins to investigate, discovering in the process that the hunt for one man is a hunt for many-and a network of unimaginable evil spanning sixty years.

"Superbly crafted narrative of espionage and foreign intrigue....Action and suspense abound, but this is serious fiction with a serious purpose." (Publishers Weekly)

"Daniel Silva has now indisputably joined the ranks of Graham Greene and John le Carre." (Chicago Tribune)

Gabriel Alon does it again

yes, finding and kidnapping a nazi war criminal reminding us of the Argentina and catholic church complicity in shielding them..and leaving us on the edge of our seat.

Heartbreaking depiction of Nazi death camps

I love this series. It is gripping, emotional & oddly righteous. Daniel Silva is one of my favorite authors & his work never disappoints. The narration was perfect.

A difficult subject/an excellent story

I enjoyed the book very much. The plot and characters were consistent and well thought out, and the narrator was excellent.

Another great Gabriel Allon book!

This one is a little slower than the previous books, but not bad by any means. Very good story as usual. Not as much action, but very descriptive. Hope you enjoy it like I did!

Difficulty ending

The story was superbly researched and crafted, except for the “formulaic“ ending. It was too much like the final seen in the preceding novel where a dispassionate villain, Who has successfully remained hidden, is inexplicably located and neutralized. This is totally unsatisfying, except to reinforce what we already know about Gabriel Alon’s loyalties.

Riveting story, excellent performance

This was the first book I have heard narrated by Mr. Lee. Amazingly he is every bit as good as George Guidot. Both are superb for this series.
Beautiful prose and imagery--really unneccesarily good for this genre. Well drawn characters and riveting story. Just what I expect from Silva.
