Publisher's summary

Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch is up to his neck in a case that has transfixed all of celebrity-mad Los Angeles: a movie director is charged with murdering an actress during sex, and then staging her death to make it look like a suicide. Bosch is both the arresting officer and the star witness in a trial that has brought the Hollywood media pack out in full-throated frenzy.

Meanwhile, Terry McCaleb is enjoying an idyllic retirement on Catalina Island when a visit from an old colleague brings his former world rushing back. It's a murder, the unreadable kind of murder he specialized in solving back in his FBI days. The investigation has stalled, and the sheriff's office is asking McCaleb to take a quick look at the murder book to see if he turns up something they've missed.

McCaleb's first reading of the crime scene leads him to look for a methodical killer with a taste for rituals and revenge. As his quick look accelerates into a full-sprint investigation, the two crimes - his murdered loner and Bosch's movie director - begin to overlap strangely. With one unsettling revelation after another, they merge, becoming one impossible, terrifying case, involving almost inconceivable calculation. McCaleb believes he has unmasked the most frightening killer ever to cross his sights. But his investigation tangles with Bosch's lines, and the two men find themselves at odds in the most dangerous investigation of their lives.

Don't miss Detective Harry Bosch on the case in these Michael Connelly crime fiction novels.

Get rid of this narrator

I have listened to all Bosch novels in order so far. I love Harry Bosch. Absolutely LOVE this character. But this narrator made me have to remind myself this is NOT the Harry I have come to love.

If this wAs the first of the series I would never try another and all because of this narrator

PLEASE never have this man read again.

Not one of Connelly's best but okay

I found parts of this book to be a bit unbelievable but once I committed I wanted to see the book until the end.

Bosch's voice was horrible

The actor made Bosch sound like a 65 year old overweight man with a scratchy voice.

The book is amazing, the narrator is not...

seriously! Dick Hill who narrated the first 6 Harry Bosch novels was incredible but this new narrator reminded me of why I dont like listening to books over reading them. His voicing of characters is odd, he pauses at weird locations in the story. My biggest peeve about him however is that there were a few times I sat and read along where he completley adlibbed parts of the book rather than reading word for word. I'm not talking just a word or two here or there either, there were whole sentences, dates and even an amendment to the constitution that he read completley wrong. I'm hoping for the novels I haven't ready yet that they've gone back to Dick Hill or gotten someone equally as talented.

Another Bosch-er Classic

Well written. Voice of Bosch was “grating.” Story moderately engaging. Like the previews. I’m hooked. Next up, book 8.

Not my favorite Bosch voice

I like the story. The narrator's reading and characterization was okay. His Bosch voice sounded like someone who had a chest cold and had been drinking.

Good story, narration needs improvement

Is there anything you would change about this book?

the story held my interest, but did not seem as good as other Harry Bosch stories. I found the narration difficult to listen to as the narrator would sometimes end phrases as if it was the end of a sentence then begin the remainder of the phrase like a new sentence. The intonation just seemed off in many parts of the book. I also felt his accents and attempts at female characters poorly done.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Darkness More than Night: Harry Bosch Series, Book 7?

When McCaleb reveals to Winston who he suspects of the horrific murder

Another great one from Connelly

Another terrific book from Michael Connelly, well-narrated by Richard Davidson. Definitely recommended if you've enjoyed other crime thrillers from Connelly.
