Editorial reviews

Editors Select, May 2013 - This was my first time listening to a legal thriller, and I can safely say I’m hooked. I had always shied away from the genre, assuming that the plots were too fantastical – but this story has a ripped-from-the-headlines feel, creating a relevancy that will attract both newbies like me and established thriller fans. Mitzner delivers a character driven narrative, while seamlessly blending romance, criminal law, and suspense, keeling me guessing until the very end. Kevin T. Collins does a marvelous job narrating – the emotion that he pours into each character captivated me from the start. I felt all of the triumphs and setbacks of the case, and I found myself deeply invested in its outcome. I really hope that this duo works together again, but in the meantime I’m going hunting for more from both the author and the narrator. —Katie, Audible Editor

Publisher's summary

The second electrifying thriller from the "gifted writer" (Publishers Weekly) and author of A Conflict of Interest.

A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

Critic reviews

"Mitzner's courtroom drama is Grisham-like in suspenseful before-the-bench action....a wicked ride, with more loops and flips than Coney Island's Cyclone." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Ah, the crucible of the courtroom! Adam Mitzner understands its appeal so very well. Devotees of legal suspense will find themselves happily at home, zinging with the intrigue, reeling with the twists, and ultimately well fed with a satisfying (if shocking) resolution. And if you've been away from the fictional halls of justice for too long, A CASE OF REDEMPTION is where you need to come back." (Jamie Mason, author of Three Graves Full)

Well Written

I enjoyed this book. It was not as intense as my usual thrillers...but it kept my attention from beginning to end. A good book.

Good Story Lines

I really enjoyed this crime - mystery story. It was cleverly written, and I don't think I've read anything by Adam Mitzner to date. It will be my first and I'll hunt for another one. It was a good story line with a few twists and lots of anticipation. I would recommend for a good read/listen!

Can anyone say "Paul Newman"?

I bought this book based on some of its reviews. Mistake! I found it uninspiring, all too predictable and lacking depth. I hung on until the end as I had nothing else to listen to at the time and was rewarded only in having my lowered expectations confirmed. From the get-go I kept thinking of Paul Newman in the Verdict with regard to one of the main characters and was unsurprisingly correct in the connection. Unlike some reviewers promised there were no court-room heroics or drama for that matter. So not the best legal thriller I’ve read or listened to by far.

Solid book

Sometimes the narrator is over dramatic but that's probably my own point of view. Very good story! Ended interestingly enough.

good but predictable

The plot starts out quite well and having listened to “A Conflict of Interest” only recently I could easily get into the story or rather its setting. However, the characters remained mostly superficial and it was soon predictable who the bad guys were. As long as the plot was tightly woven with turns and twists this wouldn’t be too bad, however, there was not much unforeseeable twisting and turning here.
Don’t get me wrong: It is still an enjoyable listen, but Mitzner set the bar with “A Conflict of Interest” so high that I am actually disappointed. I’m missing depths and character development in this story, it seems as if the author was in a hurry to produce a sequel to his first hit.
As to the narration: It was no comparison to David LeDoux’s excellent performance in “A Conflict of Interest.” Collins performed rarely in favour of the story but more often he overdid it which made it strenuous to liste to.

Excellent & Surprising.

Where does A Case of Redemption rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is incredibly well preformed. It has many many layers and keeps you intrigued and on the edge of your seat for the duration.
I loved the narrator, I have listened to many many audio books, this guy was so good, he really embodied the main character.
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly, I wish I had purchased this book rather than some of the other trash I have listened to lately.

Which character – as performed by Kevin T. Collins – was your favorite?

The main character, Daniel.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was surprising, especially the 3rd part

Any additional comments?

Great listen....

Disappointing

Had I read this book rather than listened to it I may feel differently. The story was somewhat compelling and I definitely wanted to hear it to the end. But the book’s too frequent sappy touches, and the narrator’s overly sappy delivery, made this ultimately a disappointing experience.

A TWISTED TALE

not really exciting. Just enough intrigue Iowa keep me interested. I will listen to another of his books...perhaps I will find it more intriguing
