Editorial reviews

Editors Select, May 2013 - This was my first time listening to a legal thriller, and I can safely say I’m hooked. I had always shied away from the genre, assuming that the plots were too fantastical – but this story has a ripped-from-the-headlines feel, creating a relevancy that will attract both newbies like me and established thriller fans. Mitzner delivers a character driven narrative, while seamlessly blending romance, criminal law, and suspense, keeling me guessing until the very end. Kevin T. Collins does a marvelous job narrating – the emotion that he pours into each character captivated me from the start. I felt all of the triumphs and setbacks of the case, and I found myself deeply invested in its outcome. I really hope that this duo works together again, but in the meantime I’m going hunting for more from both the author and the narrator. —Katie, Audible Editor

Publisher's summary

The second electrifying thriller from the "gifted writer" (Publishers Weekly) and author of A Conflict of Interest.

A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

Critic reviews

"Mitzner's courtroom drama is Grisham-like in suspenseful before-the-bench action....a wicked ride, with more loops and flips than Coney Island's Cyclone." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Ah, the crucible of the courtroom! Adam Mitzner understands its appeal so very well. Devotees of legal suspense will find themselves happily at home, zinging with the intrigue, reeling with the twists, and ultimately well fed with a satisfying (if shocking) resolution. And if you've been away from the fictional halls of justice for too long, A CASE OF REDEMPTION is where you need to come back." (Jamie Mason, author of Three Graves Full)

Non plausible story but entertaining.

Plot was a bit of a stretch even with a nervous breakdown induced career change. Entertaining within those parameters. Somewhat transparent.

A case of mediocrity

This is an OK listen. I have certainly listened to better books, so nothing to get too excited about.

Kevin T Collins strikes again.

Collins makes stories better than they really are. The plot and writing of the novel were mediocre, but Collins draws you into the characters' feelings and keeps you on the edge of your seat with his urgent telling. Lots of fun.

Great book! Where have they been hiding him?

In this case the comparisons to Griisham and Turow are true, maybe surpassed. Want more!

unbelievable

What did you love best about A Case of Redemption?

I don't know where to start with this book, it just blew me away. The whole story had me going I was ready for the trail and enjoying how the lawyer was getting back on his feet and in his groove. And then the end just went over the top it was soo unexpected I just had to love it and hate it at the same time.

What other book might you compare A Case of Redemption to and why?

This is like the Harry Boosh books to me. They are so amazing and then bam at the end some times it is something soo unexpected.

What about Kevin T. Collins’s performance did you like?

Wonderful performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When LD was murdered and the judge was telling him, and then again when he was comforting the lady lawyer, and the last part was when he was talking to LD's baby momma about what will come out and to keep telling his child that no matter what her daddy was brave and loved her.

Awesome attorney novel!

If you could sum up A Case of Redemption in three words, what would they be?

A court case from the first meeting with the client until the denouement. A love story, same. Great plotting.

What other book might you compare A Case of Redemption to and why?

It's kind of like John Grisham novels in that the author seems to know his way around the legal arena.

Which scene was your favorite?

The confrontation at the end.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't say without spoiling.

Any additional comments?

I was gripped from beginning to end. I have several half-finished books on my iPod, so this is not always the case. I suspect that an attorney would be bored by the amount of detail, but I thought it was interesting.

Really enjoyed it

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was I thought the trial narrative was a bit too long. Otherwise a satisfying read, with twist & turns that didn't seem ridiculous. Good characterizations and an outstanding narration. I'll look for Kevin Collins as a narrator again.
