Loved it!

The author has done an excellent job in taking me back to the time of the old west. I enjoyed the story, the plot, and the characters. The narrator and the author combining their talents made this book enjoyable and I give them both 5 stars. The narrator brought these characters to life. With his tone and inflections, he conveyed their feelings of joy, fear, sadness and physical hardship. I was there with them as Mount and the family he was escorting traveled to Oregon. Each hardship they faced on that journey had me anxiously awaiting the outcome and hoping for the best. Each challenge met with success made me smile. Throughout the story, the characters changed and grew as they survived the trip. I recommend this book.

The narrator was simple awesome. The story let's you just relax and listen. It has everything you want in a mountain man story. Truly a good book series without taking itself to seriously. I enjoyed All 3 books.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mount and have already purchased the next two books in the series.

Humorous western yarn.

This is a fun western adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously.

I agree with other reviewers who said this was not historically accurate. However from the tone of the story, it feels like a tall tale, or around our house, we'd call it a truck driver's story - long on entertainment value and short on confirmable facts and accuracy. A tale told to make listeners laugh and maybe even gasp and one where the teller has as much fun as the listener.

Mr. Dyess, one of our family's favorite narrators, excels at bringing stories to life, and he definitely worked his magic on this. His tone and pacing, and especially his comedic timing, work together to draw the listener in. He gives the story authenticity and makes it feel like it's being told by a real "mountain man."

If you're looking for something to amuse and entertain, this is a great choice!

Fun pre-pioneer story (1840’s)

This story, and parts 2 and 3, would be fun to read. With Jay Dyess performing and narrating, the characters come to life!! Never a dull moment and now one of my favorites!!
