Publisher's summary

When it seems that all is lost, and you have no hope, you need someone to look after your best interests. Be careful, misplaced loyalty can prove fatal.

Detective Patsy Hodge has left her old life behind to start a new job with Bristol CID. She attends a suspicious death with her new boss: straight-talking, no nonsense Detective Inspector John Meredith. Within days the body count begins to rise, as victims, old and new, are discovered to have died by lethal injection. Assisted suicide or euthanasia? Meredith calls it murder.

There is an attraction between the two detectives, who circle each other, but both Meredith and Hodge are carrying an enormous amount of emotional baggage, and soon their pasts threaten to overwhelm their future. As the investigation gathers pace, tension mounts within the team, and someone takes an unhealthy interest in Patsy, threatening her life, and she no longer knows who to trust.

Great controversial subject!

Is it compassion or murder? Assisted suicide is a complex and legal matter. Good sexual tension in the story keeps you guessing throughout the story.

Lee Beddow does a good job narrating.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Wow, I really enjoyed this.

This is a very easy listen. The story never dragged and the few times I thought I knew where it was going there was anew twist thrown in. This was very well written and very well read.

A twisty turning mystery that doesn't disappoint

I'd read an ebook copy of this story and liked it enough that I wanted to hear it told. (I'm a huge audiobook fan and prefer audio over print most days.) The narrator did a fabulous job bringing these characters to life. The story itself deftly blends the mystery with a romance and makes both work. Even though, having read the book previously, I knew 'who done it' I still enjoyed how the clues rolled out and while I didn't guess who the murderer was the first time through, the clues are all there and it all makes sense.

Loved it!

This is the first novel by M K Turner that I have read. I loved it so much and cannot wait to get started on the next in the series. There are plenty of twists to keep you guessing as to whodunnit and lots of laughs as well. The narrator, Lee Beddow, is absolutely perfect for this series. I could not stop listening!

OMG this is a roller coaster read!!!

I am hooked on this series for sure. M K Turner created a novel with all kinds of suspense and the fun part is it is a police crime procedural and it's full of amorous pursuits. This is a page turner..there is not a dull moment in this novel. It is full of twists that make the end a surprise and I should known moment. The characters are amazing. There are lots of strong personalities both male and female which is refreshing and part of what keeps the action moving a the nice pace it does through this novel. Lee Beddow does a great job of bringing the characters to life the narration in this audio book.

Good British Story

Detective Patsy wanting to better herself gets a job in Bristol. The Detective Inspector John takes her under his wings. A case that has questions from the beginning, but when the death count rises .Then Patsy soon has a stalker, which gives some added twists to the story. The love interest between John and Patsy was good while they tried to denied it.Given ARC Audio and narration added to the story. For my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Good and very detailed

First listen by this author..it took me a while to get into to this book and I considered giving up about 4 hours end but I continued. Characters grew on me as did the story line. There were several main characters who were called by first names, last names and nicknames that got confusing at times. Towards to end of the book there were some parts that were not very believable-why would a murderer let a person leave a room to get a glass of water? And then why would the person return with the water as opposed to a weapon or without calling for help? I feel like the book would have been better if it was a few hours shorter.I am going to continue with the series to see what happens with the main characters...I’m a sucker for a series!

Intriguing but lots of characters

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

I am actually more at a 3.5. I really liked this author's writing style and the main character development. I was intrigued by the mystery of whether or not individuals who appeared to be committing suicide were actually murdered. The relationship between Meredith and Patsy was interesting and certainly added color to the story - a large part of this book is devoted to their relationship. However, the problem, for me, was that there were so many characters with so many similar names. When you are listening to a book, especially a long book like this one and there are lots of characters, you begin to lose track of people or even lose a bit of the thread of the story. I am going to listen to the second book in the series as I liked the main characters a lot and this does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

The narrator, Lee Beddow, did a very nice job narrating. His narration quickened during the action sequences - bringing up the tension of the moment. He did a good job in creating the various main characters.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story. The narrator was so easy to listen to and understand. The content kept me wondering what would happen next.
