Mary Shelley was an English novelist who was best known as the author of the famous Gothic novel, Frankenstein. She was born in 1797, and her parents were the political philosopher, William Godwin, and the philosopher and feminist, Mary Wollstonecraft.

The story of Frankenstein begins with the explorer, Robert Walton, looking for a new passage from Russia to the Pacific Ocean via the Arctic Ocean. One day, they spot an emaciated man - Victor Frankenstein - floating on an ice sheet. In a series of letters to his sister in England, Walton retells Frankenstein's tragic story.

Love to added chapters

I’ve previously read this book, but never listened to an audio version. This is the eighteenth book I have read/listened to by Audiobook Giveaways and I would gladly listen to another. Their audiobooks stand out in that they add (at the beginning) an historical introduction, overview and themes/quotes from the book. I think this really rounds out the listen and would be great for a student. ——-

This is the third book I have listened to by this narrator ( Karen Allen ) and I would listen to another. Her intake of breath is obvious and a bit distracting. Her cadence doesn’t really vary so she reads more than performs. She uses varying character voices although they are not overly differentiated. Which is not necessarily a problem, if there is some change in expression or cadence. Overall however, I enjoyed listening to this book.——-

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Amazing and heartbreaking tale

I was surprised by the story. I had seen the old version of the movie many years ago and don't really remember it. So, the story was very new to me. It is such a tragic tale of hope and desire turned against oneself. Since the protagonist is a male, I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been narrated by a man, or at least a woman who could do a lower pitch. I also found myself getting confused at times as the narrator does not have a range of distinctive voices. She does, however, read dramatically and with feeling.

A classic

Frankenstein.
My only criticism would be that it would have benefited from a male narrator (the main character is male).
Forget the movies this is the real thing, and is written in the style of two hundred years ago.

This is so much better than simply reading it

In reading a physical copy, I wanted to like it but got bored. The pace and voice makes it easy to listen to and you simply don't have time to be bored. The story simply pulls you in.

Horror at its best

There is a good reason that this story is so well known. The story is classic and enduring. It is fascinating to think how long this story has been around. The narration is fantastically performed.
