Publisher's summary

When Charlie Guest gets dragged along on a cruise by his friend Martin, he thinks his biggest worry will be seasickness.

But when an outbreak forces some of the passengers to quarantine in paradise, things take a decidedly different turn, especially after a body turns up in a pool. Everyone is a suspect.

With a cast that includes an aging Hollywood bit player, a closeted rising politician, a recent Oscar winner, a charming drag queen - and a hunky mystery man who might or might not be a former ‘80s porn star - Michael Thomas Ford's latest hysterical novel blends romance and mystery into an intoxicating cocktail that just happens to be perfect for escaping the boredom of social distancing.

Michael Thomas Ford is a five-time winner of the Lambda Literary Award, in the categories of mystery, humor, and romance. The author of numerous books, he has been called “a delightfully inventive wit” by Publishers Weekly. His novels include Last Summer, Jane Bites Back, What We Remember, Lily (a finalist for the Shirley Jackson Award), and Love & Other Curses.

Fun, gay escapism

If you’re looking for a fun, wild ride of a gay mystery then you should check this out. Is it plausible? No, it’s meant to be fun, gay escapism fiction. The performance is great, and there’s a nod to Leslie Jordan with one of the characters which I loved. My understanding of the timeline was this was happening at the start of the pandemic before people really knew how serious it was. I also appreciated main characters who immediately wanted to take action and try to strategize. If you can enjoy the story for its characters and crazy plot twists, you’ll have a good time with this, just don’t take it seriously.

Fun Romp

This was a fun story filled with great characters. I like a lighthearted mystery now and then, and this really delivered.

Huge props to narrator Vikas Adam, who brilliantly brought these fun characters to life. This is the second audio book that he has narrated in my librsry, and he is a new favorite!

Weird about COVID

This was a pretty good mystery. a little forced and a little cartoons, but fun overall. But the overall premise of the quarantine island bothered me. The way the characters basically ignored and joked about COVID precautions, even after testing positive, really bothered me. It would have been one thing if all them had really been locked up in a compound with just the other COVID positive folks, but they were going all over the island solving mysteries and just having fun. Far cry from staying in your own room. It was still an entertaining story, but I just didn't buy that these were people who cared about other people, which ruined my ability to be able to sympathize.
(And yes, it turned out they didn't actually have COVID, but they didn't know that)
