Melody McCann is coming home from being East to school. Coming with her is her fiancé. While getting close to home the stagecoach is stopped and Melody is taken by four men from the stage. It was plain to see that she was what they wanted. Especially after giving the coach driver a note for the ones waiting on her. Jason, Melody's fiancé, is pistol whipped and a passenger shot. Her sister, Barbara and her fiancé on the ones waiting to take Melody home. Two old friends that had work for the family is at the stage station also. They as young men had saved the life of Barbara and her mother.. They offer help to bring Melody home. They feel that it was setup by someone close to Melody. Some wonder why the two showed up at this time. Some think that though Barbara had been running the ranch for her ailing father that he might leave the ranch to Barbara's younger step-sister. Even Barbara feels there is a chance it could happen. Different friends would like to have ranches of their own instead of working for family. When Melody is led to believe it was someone close to her that arranged the kidnapping, she wonders, who can she trust?
