Publisher's summary

The epic, multivolume Outlander saga is the starting point for a brilliant new series that begins with the novel Lord John and the Private Matter. Filled with intrigue and mystery and starring one of the most popular Outlander characters, Lord John Grey, this fresh new tale is utterly captivating.

In a richly drawn 18th-century London, Scottish exile Lord John faces a difficult situation. His cousin Olivia is engaged to marry the Honorable Joseph Trevelyan, but he has just observed something of a rather personal nature that, if confirmed, might put an end to any talk of marital bliss. Determined to investigate further, Lord John is distracted when the Crown calls for his services. A comrade in arms has been slain, and to complicate matters, the victim may have been a traitor. Now Lord John has not one but two puzzling mysteries to solve.

waiting for more unabridged Gabaldon

I love Diana Gabaldon's books. Read them all and can not wait to listen to the unabridged versions. Though not with the usual characters this book is a great story, well read. Combines history with detection, ... I find myself driving around the block, or running an extra mile to listen to this kind of stories.

Who did it and why

What made the experience of listening to Lord John and the Private Matter the most enjoyable?

That all the relationship were a little different than what I expected, but I'm glad the story try to include all types of relationships. .

What other book might you compare Lord John and the Private Matter to and why?

None of my books compare to this audiobook, it is a little realistic tale, but unexpected turn of events that involved not only .a professional side on Lord John's life but personal also.

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators voice brings the time period to life and does a great job with the voices. Surprise ending.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Loved learning more of LJG!!

I loved this narrates and how he brought LJG to life and learning more about the man. I also loved how he would reference Jamie throughout. GREAT read.

Great book-well read

A very good story very well told. I particularly enjoyed the many accents used. Though complicated I was able to follow the plot.

Quite an adventure

We get to know more of the interesting Lord John Grey in this tale. This reads like a spy story with many mysteries. Having just finished all of the Outlander books, with an eye to the consolation of the numerous short stories this was a fine adventure. Lord John was one of my favorite characters and his soldier's life will be fun to read.

LJ was a drag

started off well. the narrator was very good. gabaldon is so descriptive. she makes you feel you are a fly on the wall. the book moved slowly and became more tedious, especially at the end.

Lord John Grey-private Matter

This book has a ok story plot and characters are interesting, but a story without Jamie is like a day without sunshine.

A fun mystery

At times a bit to intricate for me to listen to as I went about my day, at times my mind wandered while I listened because I just wasn't as engaged. Overall a fun mystery. As a fan of Outlander, it was really fun to "see" Lord John again and learn more about him. The narrator is very nice, although his Scottish accents are... interesting.

After Outlander, a disappointment

The story has nowhere near the depth of character development as Outlander; it’s okay but not great.
