I like the concept of the story.

The story was good. it needs more context to be more of a mystery. And there was to much going from the present to the past. The person doing the reading has the worse southern accent. I live in South Carolina, I would know.

Enjoyed the story ties between family’s.

Enjoyed the twists and turns of the two families from two different eras. Surprised to see the likeness of the two women.

Three stories in one

I loved the intertwining stories of this book. I listened to this book in my car as I went to work or just drove around. I found myself lingering in the driveway yo get in as much as I could everyday.

I’m headed over to buy book two.

An interesting novel

When Amazon suggested a new author Michael Lindley I was looking for something different to read. What I found was something a little different than my usual selection of books. Book 1 is basically two stories in one. Current day with Hanna Walsh finding out her husband Ben was murdered on a street in Charleston to finding out all the deceit of Ben, losing her home and a family home on Pawley Island that was in the family since the Civil War. The second part of the story switches to just after the Civil War and the story of Amanda Paltierre Atwell and the diary Hanna finds in the attic of the house on Pawley Island. Normally I do not like books that switch back and forth, however, this one was well written and made the individuals seem almost real life. As Hanna is introduced to Detective Alex Frank who is investigating Ben’s murder and Amanda is introduced to Heyward. The story spans more deceit, tragedy, betrayal and more threats. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
Emily Sutton-Smith was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Unexpected Surprise… Loved it!!!!

Thank goodness I took a chance and purchased this book! I really like the story and once I turned the book on it played right up until the end.
Although a couple hundred years apart Hanna and her Great Great (?) Grandmother Amanda shared a very similar life with the death/murder of their husbands being a pivotal moment in each of their lives. The timeline goes back and forth between the two women. As each new event occurs in the present day, a comparison is drawn to her GGGrandmother’s. They both suffer through unwanted sexual advances by people they considered close. They also are dealt financial blows and threats because of their husbands.
Narration by Emily Sutton Smith is the best of the best!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book.
