    "The music..."

The #@%$#^ music in the background is just too distracting to be able to absorb even a modicum of the language.

Note to editors: those of us who desire to learn a language aren't in the market for background music.

Note to potential purchasers: save your $$$

"What is the use of this?"

It is hard to imagine what one might use this for. Just random lists of words spoken quickly and often unintelligbly.

    "Don't Buy this"

This is the absolute worst way to learn a language. It is randomly chosen vocabulary words without contrast, spoken without clear enunciation and annoying muzak in the background. By the time you begin to pronounce one word, the next is fired at you. In addition the words are often rediculous....phrases like "the hope". the chainsaw......

    "Arabic tutorial"

Much too slow, and who needs all that western classical music filling up space. If it's going to be so basic, it should explain articles in Arabic so listener knows what it's listening to re single words. Try again.

    "Useful for intermediate students"

If you've had at least a year of Arabic or two years this is a useful exercise tape. It's also worthwhile to look for a used version with the book. This is Levantine Arabic with mostly (though not always) G enunciation of the Qaaf. Sometimes odd choices for translation are made but even then it is useful reminder of a different translation. Not useful as a beginning tool - only as an exercise for an intermediate student.

    "Vocabulary out of context"

I was very excited when I saw this audiobook. I am a qualitified language teacher and have always thought that not enough emphasis is placed on allowing students to obtain a varied and relevant vocabulary bank. The vocabulary has, however, to be learnt in context to have any meaning. This audio book certainly does not do that. It consists of a female voice saying a word and a male repeating it in arabic - once. The worlds are not grouped into funtional groups. 'Dress' is followed by 'fire' and 'cake' is followed by 'magazine' and then by 'roof'. Very bizarre abstract nouns are introduced at an early stage...'the apetite', 'the feeling'. I have already obtained a basic understanding of Arabic sounds and sentence structure. You will certainly need that before embarking upon this tape. Oh - and as far as I listened, all the verbs that were spoken were done so from the male perspective & verb agreement. None with female. And the background music was too strident for my tastes. I can't imagine I will every really listen to this. If the vocabulary had been spoken/presented in logical groups it might have been of use to me, but alas it was not and therefore it is not! Disappointed.
