Publisher's summary

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Each lesson of Swahili Phase 1, Units 1-5 provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Swahili. Swahili, or Kiswahili, is the most widely-spoken African language, and is used throughout East Africa. It is recognized as an official national language in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Pimsleur's Swahili teaches Standard Swahili as spoken in and around Nairobi, Kenya. This new Swahili 30-unit course replaces our original Compact Swahili 10-unit course with new and expanded vocabulary, scenarios, grammar and structures.

Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Very Good

very good beginner book. Kenyan Swahili is a bit different but it's interchangeable with Tanzanian Swahili

Great lessons, organizes and easy to follow!

This method was fast and efficient and I have used quite a few different resources to learn languages. I would highly recommend this company to teach you a new language.

Learning on the road

I’m a truck driver and I needed a clear and easy way to learn Swahili. These audio recordings are some of the easiest I’ve found
and actually fun as well.

Fantastic language learner!!!

This was a great introduction to learning Swahili. The lesson narrator and the two Swahili speakers did a superb job at breaking down each word and sentence structure so that we, the listeners, could better grasp what we were saying. I had used a sample of Pimsleur's Japanese course before. It was just as good then as well. But with my future now directed towards learning Swahili, buying the 1st 5 units was well worth the time and credit. I cannot believe how much I have learned already, and I would highly recommend Pimsleur to anyone, regardless of the language they choose, to give Pimsleur a try. This was a fun and engaging experience!! Cannot wait to pick up lessons 6 through 10!!😁

simple and easy

essy to learn after a short amount of time you feel like you can say some basic sentences. However some things are different with actual Swahili speakers, the normal greeting I found was habari yako.

Easy to follow

I listen to this book while I work out, i I’ve been able to learn more Swahili faster than when I was trying to use a standard book to learn it. My husband is from Kenya and he gets excited every time I come home from the gym to find out what new words I learn that day.
