SUPER for practicing your Spanish speaking and conversation skills. But you don’t have to be advanced. This is for intermediate and more advanced students of Spanish. One of the native speakers tells you to Enjoy the Process. You can do just that with this intensive conversation program.
The program starts out with a section where you just listen to the teacher and to the Spanish speakers. The Spanish speaker talks so fast that I at first thought Oh No I am not going to be able to follow this. But to my surprise and delight the very next section takes the same material and slows it down so that you can repeat after the speaker. The speaker says each sentence three or four times speaking just a little bit faster each time. All you have to do is to try to say each word or sentence at the same speed and with the same pronunciation as the Spanish speaker. You speed up as you go along.
The whole program is like that. It shows you what it sounds like at normal speed then it slows it down and then speeds it back up a little bit at a time. I was astounded at how that made it pretty easy to able to mimic the native Spanish speaker both in my speed and in my pronunciation. The teacher regularly reminds you to focus on your accent/pronunciation. The final section wraps up the program with a comprehensive review of everything that you’ve learned.
Beginning language programs have to give you the material in little bitty bites because you know nothing or almost nothing. You are saying the words but at a beginning level it’s hard to feel like you are really speaking the language. This program gives you nice big bites one at a time, but not too big. It makes you feel like you are having a real life conversation in Spanish. Come to think of it you are!
Power Spanish Conversation Intensive is truly INTENSIVE without being overwhelming. If you listen to this Spanish learning audio program several times your ability to speak Spanish and your confidence in speaking it will increase several fold. This is really SUPER great practice for people who are tired of just repeating simple words and phrases but who want to REALLY START SPEAKING Spanish in a real world way. And who want to Enjoy the Process as they learn.
I have tried Duolinguo, Pimsleur, Berlitz, Rosetta Stone. Nothing even comes close to this program for teaching you how to speak conversational Spanish. I believe the reason for this is because of the numerous native speakers, the different speeds, the golden opportunity to actually PRACTICE this stuff. I can't believe the number of reviews I've read from people who hate to repeat stuff. Not repeating and practicing a language is like not training for a sport or any competition. If you don't train, you get your butt kicked in reality.
I'd rather train and learn. This program is the "real deal". Buy it and use it. You'll be glad you did.
I have been using Conversational Latin American Spanish by Mark Frobose for some time now and have nothing but praise for the program. Power Spanish Conversation Intensive is also quite good, and has more material than one would expect for such a low price.
Honestly, given the quality of Mark's programs and the low price, I don't see how anyone could go wrong. Have you priced a Rosetta Stone program lately?
I didn’t believe the hype about this guy named Mark Frobose and how good his programs were. Then I waded through the heavily accented Paul Noble and nearly passed out from boredom.
Then I tried Pimsleur Spanish and got about three words out of an entire program.
Rosetta Stone cost me an arm and a leg I learned how to say something about three apples. (It’s all a blur to me now)
Then I reluctantly tried out Frobose and took his Power Spanish programs to heart. What a relief. This guy is the real deal folks. Amazing progress.
Power Spanish Conversation Intensive throws a bunch of Spanish speakers all at once, but Frobose is in there translating all of it. With the other programs like Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur, I had to guess at meanings.
Another thing that I like about PS Conversation Intensive is that I was always REQUIRED to participate.
I could not just simply space out and fall into a stupor like I did with Berlitz, Paul Noble, or Pimsleur. For that reason, I finally learned to speak quite a bit of Spanish.
Please note: There was some crossover here, but the vast majority of what I learned came from the Power Spanish series.
This program, Power Spanish Conversation Intensive gives you the fully translated native speed conversations that you get to participate in. It’s really the icing on the cake, so if I were you I would bake the cake first with Power Spanish 1,2,3 etc .. and THEN go to this one. Great memory technique.
Amazing the lengths competitors go to in order to trash a great program like Power Spanish Conversation Intensive.
I’ve tried them all, and none of them have native speakers from both Mexico and Colombia. I played this for a certified Spanish teacher friend (she’s American but speaks fluent Spanish). She told me the program was GREAT and that even she learned some Spanish from it after just one round of listening.
Beware of scam reviews that scream “Don’t buy” and other fear tactics. Just listen to the audio sample and see for yourself.
Ask any native Spanish speaker if “Hay que preguntar para saber” is great Spanish and “Creo que tiene retraso” is also correct and useful. They’ll tell you.
It’s challenging, but there is a memory technique so you’ll get it eventually and then you’ll really know how to converse in real Spanish.
It took me a while to figure out why I was learning to speak and understand so much Spanish so quickly from Power Spanish Conversation Intensive.
At first, I thought it was the repetition of difficult material.
Then it came to me.
It’s not really rote repetition. It’s more like a “retrieval” method that they use. You bring it back, again and again, until you’re really good at it.
They do it like situps or weights. They start off easy and light and then build. It really works and makes this program a must buy for just under ten bucks. I’ve paid many times that for programs that didn’t teach me a thing. This is a bargain.
This program really allows you to master the basics of conversational Spanish with effective review. The only way to really learn to speak a language is by intelligently practicing it with a great method. This program has the best method I have ever used, and I am really learning to speak Spanish thanks to it.
When I learned how to ask "Can you tell me what time the plane arrives from ......"
I use that one every time I travel to Latin America. Also .... "Don't mention it" - No hay de que. And "It's going to arrive really late, right?"
Very useful for Latin America, believe me.
I love the caring way Mark goes the extra mile to explain and review everything.
I am still deeply moved by the fact that I learned so much Spanish.
Buy it and use it. It really works. Don't be afraid to review. As Mark says ... Repetition is the mother of fluency.
Fast, Easy, Effective
I have tried Pimsleur, Living Language, Berlitz, and Rosetta Stone. This program is far better and a bargain for the price.
Gets you really speaking conversational Latin American Spanish right away.
Provides the needed review to let you practice until you get it right.
I haven't found any. Some reviewers don't seem to like repetition, but if you don't over this material in a systematic fashion like they do here, then the program wouldn't be as great as it is.
Engaging in live conversation with several different native Spanish speakers at native speed and understanding them and speaking back effectively.
Mark was excellent. Great deep voice and caring attitude.
It's obvious that he's very fluent in Spanish and is an experienced instructor.
I also liked the native Spanish speakers from Mexico and South America.
It made me laugh to think how much money I blew on more expensive programs like Pimsleur, RS, and others which never got me these great results.
Don't be fooled by glitzy programs that claim to teach you a language overnight.
Power Spanish Conversation Intensive is the "real deal". It teaches you fast, keeps you motivated, provides the needed feedback, & gives the needed review to actually "master" this material. The airheads out there that want to play the program once and move on are never going to learn to speak a language.
No pain, no gain. But this pain feels really good because I'm speaking more Spanish now than I ever dreamed possible and my Latino friends are amazed.
Not any more, unless the quantity of new material presented per hour is increased in future programs.
I have purchased Power Spanish Accelerated I and II. I thought repetition was exaggerated there, but boy was I wrong? Those books had substantially more new material than this book. I know that repetition is the mother of all learning, but there is a limit as how many hours of a 4 hours audiobook should be dedicated to repetition. In this book about 30 sentences (2-3 minutes of basic communication in native speed) are repeated over and over for 3 hours and then they are all repeated endlessly in the last hour! Yes, repetition is the key to fluency, but Mr. Frobose needs to understand that this is not a live lecture, rather an audiobook, where the listeners have the power to rewind based on their individual needs.
It is enough to have sentences repeated only 3 times, once without translation, once translated at normal speed, and once translated at slow speed. I am speaking from experience as English is not my native language! And sure enough I can rewind if I need to.
Disappointments. Considering the content, it should have been a $1 book
Do not buy!
This is a complete scam. It is NOT "4 hours of accelerated Spanish". It is literally 4 hours of listening to the same 20 sentences over and over and over. I'd sooner have a root canal than listen to this again. I do not exaggerate.
In case you forget, each chapter begins with credits and copyright information. During the lesson they literally reuse a previous recording many times over. Most of us by now know how to rewind on our own.
Shame on you, Mark Frobose!
I'm angry enough about this to send a formal complaint to Audible.
