BEST ALL-PURPOSE ITALIAN COURSE

What did you love best about Power Italian I Accelerated/Complete Written Listening Guide-Tapescript/8 One Hour Audio Lessons?

It was easy to understand, The lessons are very easy and adaptable,

What does Mark Frobose bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is genius author and make it very for users to understand, his point of view of different languages makes him such a great author

Any additional comments?

I think Power Italian I by Mark Frobose and Language Audiboooks is by far the best general beginning Italian program on the market today. I am an adjunct Italian instructor at a local community college. My mother is native Italian. Having taught Italian for years I can say without hesitation that Mark's program and Ilaria's pronunciation in Power Italian I are the ideal combination for success in speaking and understanding real Italian. Nothing compares to this that I have seen and used.

Just Alright

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'm not sure why the topic of food (Italian for breakfast, dinner, etc.) came up three times during the course of the audiobook. Each time it was the same 15 to 20 minutes of the same thing I feel like the last chapter specifically was wasted, because the new expressions introduced there weren't explained nor practiced.

Would you recommend Power Italian I Accelerated/Complete Written Listening Guide-Tapescript/8 One Hour Audio Lessons to your friends? Why or why not?

If you absolutely do not have any knowledge of Italian, this would be too confusing for you. Otherwise, it's a good audiobook to pick up some useful day-to-day expressions if you are visiting an Italian-speaking country for a brief vacation.

What about Mark Frobose’s performance did you like?

Constant reinforcement.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. The book is more educational than entertaining. That would be the dullest movie I would have ever seen.

Any additional comments?

Repackage the last few chapters. Remove the section on food that was repeated, replace with more lessons, or an elaboration of the later taught expressions.

Overall good but left me wanting

What did you love best about Power Italian I Accelerated - 8 One Hour Audio Lessons - 144 Study Units?

I liked the book, and followed along well. I've taken Italian classes before and wanted a review session before traveling. As any language primer, this is incredibly repetitive. I wish it were a bit less so. Many portions of the chapters felt like a direct copy/paste from the previous chapter(s). There is very little travel-oriented dialog. A bit about hotel, room, key, but that's it. It does very well in giving you the pieces to be able to shop and order/pay for food. Wish there was more about say "Which train do I take from x to y," or potentially more of the "we" conjugations of verbs as opposed to I/you. A good primer overall. You'll need this and some other supportive books/tapes as well.

Good but...

It is hard to understand the native speaker on some words. I strain to hear if it's a b or v sound and have to look it up so I can see the word. To see it in English and Italiano would be the complete package. Now I use this paired with Uribe videos to fully get the words.

Best Italian Course

Any additional comments?

Here’s what I like about Power Italian by Frobose.
1. Clear voices, great American instructor, nice female native Italian speaker named Hilaria (or something like that).
2. Nice WRITTEN audioscript that really helped me when I was at home and at the office, able to read. (Visual and Audio learner here)
3. I personally appreciate the crystal clear explanations from Mark (who I found out used to be the Editorial Director for MacMillan Audio of New York. Seems he created all their foreign language programs. Sounds like a “serious dude” in a multilingual sense.
4. The memory technique really works. It’s actually fun. “Do you remember how to say …” and then you have to “bring it back from memory”.
5. Best of all was the original sentence creation stuff. Gets you to make up your own sentences. Awesome.
Best language investment I ever made.

Best Italian Course Ever

Any additional comments?

I've tried many Italian courses and none have ever taught me what I learned from just five minutes of Power Italian. Real deal here. Structure, explanations, practice, memory building, expressions, great native speaker. The best ever.

OK For Beginners

Despite the title, there's nothing "accelerated" about this. The lessons are divided into two books, separately priced. Mark Frobose and the native speaker are very good in teaching the basics. But the same material (and the exact same recording of the material) are repeated over and over and over. How many times does a person need to learn to say "I want to eat" or "I want to buy a souvenir?" Without exaggerating, I would estimate those two phrases alone are repeated 100 times. By the end you're really only speaking the same 50 words with a few verb conjugations. If you want to refresh your Italian, skip this one. If you're a beginning, it's probably a could place to start before moving on to something better.

Made Me Semi-Fluent

Any additional comments?

I learned so much from Power Italian 1 that I almost feel fluent. I know that I am not “native” in Italian, but my ability to converse with native Italians took a giant leap forward with Power Italian 1 Accelerated.
Warning. If you do not really care about truly learning to speak and understand real Italian the way the Italians speak it, then don’t bother with Power Italian. There are lots of other “feel good/teach nothing” programs out there, believe me, I have used them all.
On the other hand, if you really want to work at it a little, and “enjoy the process” as the program says, then you’re going to speak Italian very soon with Power Italian.
