Enseñé inglés durante muchos años y vi que muchos estudiantes se atascan en la etapa de principiantes/intermedio. Aprenden los conceptos básicos y luego no pueden avanzar. Este problema solía frustrarme realmente porque tenía muchos estudiantes excelentes que estaban atascados y eventualmente se dieron por vencidos.
Pensé durante mucho tiempo acerca de lo que estaba mal y luego decidí que no era que el estudiante no tenía la capacidad, sino que lo que estaban estudiando y la forma en que estaban estudiando no era eficaz.
Me di cuenta que a pesar de tener un buen Inglés básico leían libros de texto llenos de su idioma nativo (no Inglés). Yo solía pensar 'por qué están leyendo todo este Espanol etc español sobre el Inglés y no simplemente leer en Inglés en su lugar. Decidí ver si podía solucionar este problema.
Empecé a asignar a los estudiantes tareas como 'ver este drama en Inglés con subtítulos y luego sin' o 'leer un artículo corto todas las noches durante un mes'. Encontré que los resultados fueron asombrosos. Mis alumnos comenzaron a ser mucho más fluidos y seguros de sí mismo.
Esto me convenció que la mejor manera de adquirir fluidez consistía en leer o ver Inglés real que resulte interesante para los estudiantes. Así que empecé a escribir historias cortas utilizando Inglés que es fácil de entender mixto con expresiones idiomáticas y verbos frasales que utilizan todo el tiempo los hablantes nativos de inglés.
