Impresionado, Gilgamesh emprende la búsqueda de la inmortalidad, que le lleva hasta los confines del mundo, donde viven el sabio Utnapishtim y su mujer, únicos supervivientes del Diluvio, a los que los dioses concedieron el don de la Inmortalidad. Pero Gilgamesh no alcanza lo que pretende. A la vuelta, encuentra, una planta que devuelve la juventud; pero una serpiente se la roba y Gilgamesh vuelve a Uruk con las manos vacías, convencido de que la inmortalidad es patrimonio exclusivo de los dioses.
