Nobody in their right minds would listen to this particular book about the lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire on purpose, because each dismal moment of their stay at the village of V.F.D. has been faithfully and dreadfully recorded on this program.
I can think of no reason why anyone would want to listen to a book containing such unpleasant matter as migrating crows, an angry mob, a newspaper headline, the Duluxe Cell, and some very strange hats.
It is my solemn and sacred occupation to research each detail of the Baudelaire children's lives and write them all down, but you may decide to do some other sacred and solemn thing, such as listening to another book instead.
With all due respect,

"Tim Curry gives distinct character vocalizations without compromising the rich undertones of his voice. He keeps the tongue-in-cheek humor and mockery of this children's series refreshing rather than redundant. Curry reads the backstory from previous books clearly, so a listener unfamiliar with the earlier novels may understand this one....A wholly enjoyable listening experience." (AudioFile)
I had toyed with the idea of picking up these books on occasion at various places. After I heard the interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air (on my 40th birthday no less), I had to give these a try. This not just kidstuff (although they are completely kid appropriate). These are so much FUN!!! My husband and I listen to them over and over and laugh our heads off. Misery loves company -- and I am hooked. You'll never look at crows -- or handymen -- the same way again.
Yes, I think he's great. wish Tim Curry read all the books.
he made me happy
I've loved listening to Tim for the last few books. Snicket is a great writer, but his voice just didn't work well with the story, and Tim's voice acting is simply top notch!
This installment of the series was really interesting! A few of them have been a little hard to get through, simply because it always seemed to be the same story, but this one was a little different! I loved it! Can't wait to get the next one!
This book was wonderful, just like the others in this series. But like the previous book, it is missing the final letter to the editor :(
if you have read the ongoing meisery so far you will not find this book helpful in ther answer to the question what is VFD that will be answered in good deitial in the 10th and 11th books but this in no reason not to read it for you will find out that once agin the evil count "omar" was plotting and has gone to VFD too look for the children.
