Publisher's summary

When Percy Jackson receives an urgent distress call from his friend Grover, he immediately prepares for battle. He knows he'll need his powerful demigod allies, Annabeth and Thalia, at his side; his trusty bronze sword, Riptide; and...a ride from his mom.

The demigods race to the rescue, to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two new powerful half-bloods whose parentage is unknown. But that's not all that awaits them. The Titan lord, Kronos, has set up his most devious trap yet, and the young heroes have just fallen prey.

Hilarious and action-packed, this third adventure in the series finds Percy faced with his most dangerous challenge so far: the chilling prophecy of the Titan's curse.

Percy Jackson is the eponymous hero of the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. He made his debut in The Lightning Thief at just 12 years old, where he discovered the shocking truth about his parentage: He is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and the god Poseidon. Beyond his own series, he was one of the protagonists in the Heroes of Olympus series and has since appeared in other spin-off novels and series from Riordan.

Percy's not just for kids

I have enjoyed all of Rick Riordan's books. I pre-read for my children and have been amazed with his skills. I'm a very tough reader on a writer. I over examine style, prose, and story. I have loved his books.

make better voices for Tyson & Annabeth's stepmom

Would you listen to The Titan's Curse again? Why?

Yes. All of our three boys very much enjoy Rick Riordan's books. We have read and re-read them many times. We have the movies. It's wonderful!

Did Jesse Bernstein do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I appreciate the desire to make different voices, but the voice for Tyson in particular is annoying - makes him sound dumb. And also, all Asian voices use broken English. As a 4th generation Chinese American, I found this to be profoundly insulting.

Great continuation of the Percy Jackson Series

my only issue is that the narrator did not keep all the characters' voices consistent from the first book to this book, which makes it more difficult to follow the flow of the book since it is different from what your mind expects.

Expect some... Interesting accent choices

I'm not really the target demographic of these books, but the content is still really enjoyable. Rick Riordan has created a rich world with a variety of interesting, 3-dimensional characters and a fantastic plot. Jesse Bernstein pulls off a great middle school boy impression, but I suppose somewhere down the line someone decided any character with a nonwhite name has to have an exaggerated racist accent. Luckily these, uh, impressions are few and far between, but they're in there. It's my only gripe with the audiobook, but it's enough that I would steer clear if I wanted to introduce the books to children without having a conversation about accents and ethnicity.

Character Voices are Difficult

After listening to the first three books back to back, I found myself very irritated with the decision to change Mr. D’s voice to that of the Cyclopes. Grover’s voice was also made to be so much more nasally than in previous books. The complete lack of consistency nearly had me giving up on the audio book due to how distracting it was.

That, in addition to how racist Annabeth’s step-mother was portrayed, and how absurdly Blackjack’s thoughts were read, detracted from the reading dramatically.

I loved how the first two books were narrated, but this was a really disappointing performance. Crossing my fingers for the upcoming books, but my hopes won’t be too high.

Fantastic

As an adult reader/listener, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is action packed and keeps the listener's interest until the end. The reader does a fantastic job. I would recommend this to all ages of readers.

Not the best

I was excited about this series at the start and had high hopes but it does not get better as it goes along. Instead it continues to be rather mediocre and continues to lack the qualities that make many other childrens books so magical. I would recommend instead something better written and better plotted like Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches or Chronicles of Narnia.

Fun story.

Any additional comments?

Harry Potter goes Greek - part three. My kids love these books and my wife and I enjoy them as well.

A third tragedy

Rick Riordan wrote an incredible story. It gives listeners an even more significant appreciation for Jim Dale and George Guidall. The narration presented by Jesse Bernstein is still abysmal in his third performance.
