Publisher's summary

Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You've never heard of them, have you? These are the princes who saved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, respectively, and yet, thanks to those lousy bards who wrote the tales, you likely know them only as Prince Charming. But all of this is about to change.

Rejected by their princesses and cast out of their castles, Liam, Frederic, Duncan, and Gustav stumble upon an evil plot that could endanger each of their kingdoms. Now it's up to them to triumph over their various shortcomings, take on trolls, bandits, dragons, witches, and other assorted terrors, and become the heroes no one ever thought they could be.

Debut author Christopher Healy takes us on a journey with four imperfect princes and their four improbable princesses, all of whom are trying to become perfect heroes - a fast-paced, funny, and fresh introduction to a world where everything, even our classic fairy tales, is not at all what it seems.

Very light, pretty silly

Bronson Pinchot does a great job keeping the characters distinct and reading in a very light manner. The story certainly seems geared more to younger audiences and has some funny twists as well as some very silly moments. Probably won't be listening to the rest--I just prefer my fantasy with a little more gravitas.

Not what I expected!

So, It's not often that I say this, but this was not what I expected. Healy and Harris do an amazing job bringing us the story of the "Princes Charming" and thier work saving the kingdom. They also gave us more of an insider track to the ages old "Happily Ever After". If you are a fan of fantasy, fairy tales, or just like a good laugh, you need to listen to Bronson Pinchot narrate this story.

That's something else that surprised me. Bronson Pinchot. Perfect Strangers. And here is he doing an amazing cast of characters with absolutely no trace of Balki! I loved it!

Cute but confusing

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The action unfolded too quickly, with too many voice changes.. I would have liked more narration in between scene changes. By the time I figured out who was who, the narrator was on to the next scene or adventure or character or something.

Would you recommend The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom to your friends? Why or why not?

Though it was confusing some, it kept my 8 yo entertained during much of our 8 hour trip. Not sure it he was actually following, but he asked for it each time we got going again after a stop.

Did Bronson Pinchot do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The performance of all the characters was excellent!

Do you think The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The concept is really great. I think kids would enjoy a follow up book at maybe a slower pace.

Any additional comments?

Cute and entertaining. My little liked it. It was just too many character changes and too much action to deal with while driving 8 hr. However, it did help take my mind off the long, boring drive.

LIKE A MONTY PYTHON AND TERRY PRATCHETT ADVENTURE.

Seriously, it's hilarious. maybe a bit slower in a couple of areas, but I love the voice of Bronson Pinchot so much it's worth. stay behind at the end for an extra laugh during the credits too!

Funny, occasionally a frustrating experience

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I think the plot of the book is quite charming, if a little too fond of self-referential humor and puns, in a very "Piers Anthony" way. The major difficulty I have is that I find the narrator's choice of voice for Duncan exceptionally grating. Having not read the source, I'm not quite sure who is to blame for that, but as Duncan is one of the five princes and thus a primary character, his god-awful voice gets way too much airtime.

Got my Dyslexic son to fall in love with audio . .

If you could sum up The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom in three words, what would they be?

Absolutely hilarious. My kids have been quoting this book all week.

Who was your favorite character and why?

They love Prince Duncan, who seems to have come directly out of "Bill and Ted's excellent adventure".

Which character – as performed by Bronson Pinchot – was your favorite?

Bronson Pinchot is an absolute MASTER in this book. So, well done. I loved all his crazy voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

My kids would moan and yell when I would turn it off.

Any additional comments?

I HIGHLY recommend this book for any kid. I love the way it portrays Princes and Princesses as real people. Great for both my son and my daughter to hear.
