Publisher's summary

Two years have passed since young apprentice magician Nathaniel became famous by foiling the ruthless Simon Lovelace. Now 14, Nathaniel is ambitiously climbing the ranks of the magicians' government. The Prime Minister himself has placed Nathaniel in charge of capturing the Resistance, a group of unruly commoners working to undermine the magicians' empire. But after several failed attempts, Nathaniel is forced to admit he can't do it alone. With his career on the line, he reluctantly summons his only hope for success, the 5,000-year-old wise-cracking djinni Bartimaeus.

The duo is reunited just in time: the Resistance is growing more audacious than ever. And to make matters worse, a seemingly invulnerable clay golem is wreaking destruction throughout London, sending the entire city into pandemonium. With time running out, the young magician and his uncontrollable djinni must find the source of the golem's power, a task they quickly learn will involve much more than they ever anticipated.

In the ensuing chaos, Nathaniel and Bartimaeus will be chased through the streets of Prague, hunt a dancing skeleton across London's skyline, encounter the horror of the dreaded Night Police, and meet a surprising new ally. Together, these three will have to go head-to-head with the fearsome golem before the mysterious identity of its master is finally revealed.

A fun continuation of Bartimaeus

Same great narration as the first book, great humor, but less of an interesting plot. The ending is fairly anticlimactic and predictable as well.

I still love the book, regardless of my dislikes.

Excellent performance!!!

I enjoyed the story a lot but the real gem was the performance... this is how an audiobook should be!! Having Simon Jones narrate this book is such a treat..

Second book in the series... As witty as the first

Second book in the series, and just as witty as the first. New magic, new intrigue, new adventures... same Bartimaeus.

Fantastic

Love this series, a bit hard to follow if you're not paying close attention at the beginning though

Nice

I liked the story and the narrator was brilliant, but Nathaniel was a little wimpy at the beginning. I don't know if it was supposed to be like that but he just changed so much it took me by surprise.

Very Interesting, builds ALOT of plot for 3rd book!

Although not as instantly gratifying throughout the story as The Amulet of Samarkand , you really see who the characters are and the real feel for the story. i guess in any trilogy, the middle is extremely telling of the direction all three books are going! Now I know for sure I will have to read Ptolemy's Gate soon while I still feel the magic! I particulatly liked the Skeleton Guardian's voice. Well done good fellow well done!
