Publisher's summary

Two years have passed since young apprentice magician Nathaniel became famous by foiling the ruthless Simon Lovelace. Now 14, Nathaniel is ambitiously climbing the ranks of the magicians' government. The Prime Minister himself has placed Nathaniel in charge of capturing the Resistance, a group of unruly commoners working to undermine the magicians' empire. But after several failed attempts, Nathaniel is forced to admit he can't do it alone. With his career on the line, he reluctantly summons his only hope for success, the 5,000-year-old wise-cracking djinni Bartimaeus.

The duo is reunited just in time: the Resistance is growing more audacious than ever. And to make matters worse, a seemingly invulnerable clay golem is wreaking destruction throughout London, sending the entire city into pandemonium. With time running out, the young magician and his uncontrollable djinni must find the source of the golem's power, a task they quickly learn will involve much more than they ever anticipated.

In the ensuing chaos, Nathaniel and Bartimaeus will be chased through the streets of Prague, hunt a dancing skeleton across London's skyline, encounter the horror of the dreaded Night Police, and meet a surprising new ally. Together, these three will have to go head-to-head with the fearsome golem before the mysterious identity of its master is finally revealed.

Better than the first one!

This book had me cracking up. The reader fit in the accents for each character perfectly. Bartemaeus is just as smart-mouthed as usual, his first confrontation with "Nat" is a must-hear. Worth buying, as long as you liked the first book.

Another Mythical Beast, Another Winner

Being that I'm only getting to hear these from years ago, they still have the excitement and th rut ills of several newer books today. totally entertaining and pleasurable.

Amusing and lighthearted series

Where does The Golem's Eye rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Golem's Eye ranks among the highest of the books I've listened to. The author's writing is amusing and witty. The plot is lighthearted and the narrator's ability to bring Bartimaeus to life made for a fun and enjoyable time.

What did you like best about this story?

The personality of Bartimaeus.

What about Simon Jones’s performance did you like?

He did an amazing job narrating this series. He truly brought Bartimaeus to life and was spot on for the tone and sarcasm the author was going for. I've listened to over 200 audiobooks (yes, 200...but it's been over the past few years), and Simon Jones' narration of this series has been one of my favorite so far.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I actually chuckled out loud a few times, something I very rarely do.

Any additional comments?

Both the J. Stroud and S. Jones did a great job bringing Bartimaeus's world to life.

Delightful! Lovely humor!

Story and pacing immediately immerse the listener in a white water ride. The conversations and narrative by Bartimaeus are totally engaging. Characters are distinct and well drawn. The story is adventurous and ranges from light to dark subjects and scenarios. I was so engrossed that sleep got put off until 4 AM for several nights. I think Simon Jones could deliver a riveting rendition of a dictionary or the congressional record. He is an extremely skilled dramatist.

A fun continuation of Bartimaeus

Same great narration as the first book, great humor, but less of an interesting plot. The ending is fairly anticlimactic and predictable as well.

I still love the book, regardless of my dislikes.
