Publisher's summary

It's been six months since Kate, Michael, and Emma confronted the Dire Magnus, but the trail to their long-missing parents remains cold. Then Michael and Emma find a man who saw them ten years ago - three days after they disappeared. He knows about a map of a distant land, a place shrouded in mystery that may lead them to their parents.

Meanwhile, Kate's connection to the Book of Time is growing stronger and stronger, until a dangerous trick gets her stuck in the past, searching for a friend to help her.

Only a perilous quest and a daring risk will help the children to harness the power of the Books of Beginning. But will it be enough to save them?

Critic reviews

“Fans of The Emerald Atlas will find much to love: the adventure-driven plot, a scattering of deliciously scary moments, and Stephens’s offbeat take on Tolkienesque dragons, dwarves, and elves are sure to delight." (Publishers Weekly, October 8, 2012)

“Fans of the first book won’t be disappointed, and will eagerly anticipate the next one. The Emerald Atlas was very good. This one is even better." (School Library Journal, starred review)

"Irreverent humor and swashbuckling adventure collide in a fetching fantasy." (Kirkus Reviews)

Incredible follow up to the first!!

If you are a fan of magical young adult fiction, this series is right at the top. It stands independent from other popular, similar series and is one I HIGHLY recommend to fans of YA fiction.

Great fantasy

This was a fun story to get into. Jim Dale does a great job bring the characters to life. Dwarves, elves, dragons, adventure, mystery, plot twists… it’s all here.

Beautifully done

This book is very well done, the story is perfectly put together, and Jim dale reads amazingly. The details are so fine that it is so easy to picture in your head, and Mr. Dale reads very smoothly. This is definitely a good read and I don’t know if Mr. Dale is reading this, but he should definitely read more, because his voice ties everything together. If you are reading the reviews before you listen to the story, and wondering if you should buy, then I will be your answer; you should buy it. It is so perfect and so amazing. It’s one of the best reads of my 900+ library, definitely top of my list.

Even better than the first!

The first book was good but the second book is better. Jim Dale killed it on narrating the story. So many cliff-hangers! On to book 3

Cliff Hanger!

Incredible book. The series progresses so well. The characters are so well developed and draw you into them. Jim Dale is an extraordinary narrator. You instantly want to start the third book! So well done.

Outstanding

Where does The Fire Chronicle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter. This is one of the best books ever and Jim Dale really brings it all to life in a way that I would never have dreamed

What other book might you compare The Fire Chronicle to and why?

This is book 2 in the series so I was very much looking forward to it, and now even more so to book 3.

What about Jim Dale’s performance did you like?

He gives the most expressive emotional cues that you cannot help but be transported into the world of what he reads

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have I would have but that's not realistic

Good sequel

Another good installment of the Books of Origin series. I particularly enjoy the way the author presents his characters and shows that sometimes there are no good choices. the reasons behind the choice speaks to the character of the individuals. I look forward to the next installment.

Great Family Read

This is the sequel to the amazing "Emerald Atlas" and is the second in a trilogy. My children and I cannot wait for the third book to come out! I think that the narrator does a stupendous job and the story itself is fantastic. There are elements of other popular fantasy books in this series, but it definately stands on its own in this genre. The voice is unique. The characters are memorable. The story is incredible.

A good second book

The story continues with a clear differentiation between the different books. Good pacing. Still not a lot of complexity but still an enjoyable listen. on to the series finale.
