What would happen if you discovered that your family was one of the most powerful in human history? What if you were told that the source of the family's power was hidden around the world, in the form of 39 Clues? What if you were given a choice - take a million dollars and walk away...or get the first Clue? If you're Amy and Dan Cahill, you take the Clue - and begin a very dangerous race.

We listen to audiobooks in the car on the way to and from school. My kids like the 39 Clues books, but I have to put earplugs in or I become a seething rage-monster. The characters are flat, the story is astonishingly implausible (every famous person in history was a member of the Cahill family? Really? Really?!?), and it reeks of shady marketing. (Go to the website! Sign up for the mailing list! Play the games! Take the personality quiz! Collect the cards! Use secret codes for bonus content!) It's disgusting.
It also annoys me that it borrows so heavily from Harry Potter, although that seems to be the case with every young adult series of the last decade. Orphans who live with an aunt who mistreats them find out that they're really members of a secret and powerful family that has four branches, each with its own logo and distinct characteristics. The Lucian branch of the Cahill family is pretty much interchangeable with Slytherin House at Hogwarts. There's more, but you get the gist of it.
Fortunately for me, my kids like but don't LOVE the books, so I've been able to steer them towards stories that we all can enjoy.
While thid is a mystery book I think it's great for anyone even if they don't like mysteries so long as you're up for the long series. It's a quick read, you could get at least 3 of the books read in one day if you really wanted to. With the main characters young kids, it's perfect for children but also great for young adults. The series is written by several different authors, Rick Riordan known author of several series including the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This is very different from his usual works yet like always very well written. The ending is a bit confusing but does lead us into a bit of Grace's life and where the story could lead. I don't know how long the series is, but I can't wait to read the next book.
I LOVED IT !! It was narrated perfectly !😀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻, but what I loved the most was the way it switched between the two characters . I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE THAT WANTS TO BE ABLE TO GET THE SAME EXPERIENCE OF AWESOMENESS!!
Even my eight year old liked it! Made the trip to Legoland so much better and traffic was tolerable with a fun book to listen to! Riordan makes great characters and writes much like James Patterson in that the action is fast-paced and hooks you!
