"Despite the rivalry that started the contest, the longstanding animosity between the boys and girls dissipates as the students bond over the experiment. Presuming the novel doesn't generate similar contests in real life, readers may be compelled to use their voices to praise Clement's deft handling of an interesting premise." (Publishers Weekly)
Andrew Clements has done it again. We listened to this on car rides and I probably enjoyed it as much as the kids.
I bought one copy of the book for my bookshelf and had 124 Fifth graders fighting to check it out, so I decided to buy the Audible version and we listened to it while we did our work (and yes, they still were fighting to check out the book to my surprise!)
And of course, Clements story is wonderful.
This ended up being one of my best teaching tips for keeping a large class of rowdy kids quiet for a good length of time :-)
The family listened to this on a long drive. It was a wonderful story, well written, well narrated, and a total delight. Even the skeptical teens couldn't wait to turn it back on after stops.
This is a top choice in children's fiction.
I bought this for a road trip -- my husband, my 12-yo son, my 9-yo daughter and I loved it. We listened to Frindle last year, and this story was just as good. We laughed and were completely pulled into the story. It made the miles fly by!
This is my favorite audiobook thus far. I am a guy in my early twenties, who listens to audiobooks to help me fall asleep at night. This book kept my interest every minute. (That being said, it wasn't great for falling asleep to…but so worth it!) I felt like the author made it easy for me to connect to the characters and their situations (which are really funny at times!) I also thought that the portrayal of teachers was accurate and humanizing. (Teachers are people too. This isn't the main focus of the story, but I appreciated the variety of teachers and how some teachers can be stern, but still truly care.)
This book will make you laugh and think (but not in an academic or strenuous way). You won't want to stop till the end. The reading performance was spot on and the recording quality was flawless. Best book in my audible collection.
It's a truly story. It's about a primary student's competition. It had let the children thought about something they had never thought about before. And this competition tought them a lot of things, and I agreed with them. The writer had wrote a wonderful story. And I loved it very much!
