Rolled the dice again, and got this. Let's treat it like a flu shot, and get it over with QUICK.
Well, it's somewhat interesting, but not note-worthy.
A hodge-podge of super-heroes, villains, ninjas, mad-scientists, tech-warriors, and a zombie/borg-like enemy, all pursuing a young boy who will someday possibly turn evil and rule them all.
Good premise, but light on plot, soft on delivery. Not much to say, ultimately.
This is one of three in the series, and none of them fare better than the first. The author didn't grow much through the series. The narrator was better than the material.
It's a shame, but I have to call them as I see them. Sorry, Matt. This could have been so much more.
Avoid all three of these audiobooks.
For the most part, my 10 year old was bored with this book. There were brief periods that she showed interest in the story, but they were very, very brief.
As a parent, listening to this was painful. The characters are shallow, the narration is overly earnest (like someone might speak to a 3 year old), and the action drags along. There is, of course, a child trying to win against adults in this story--but nothing Jack does makes me think he *should* win against the adults. He does not go through any real struggle--rather, everything just seems to fall into his lap by luck or else because kind adults were looking out for him. This might be good for very young children that don't question magic and superheroes, but if you have a kid that likes a smart story, this one is not for you.
Admittedly, I only made it halfway through the story, but I seriously wish I could get my time back.
From my son: This book has good imagination. Lots of cliffhangers and action.
My son couldn't put this book down. He loved it and is excited to get the next book in the series.
If you like super heroes you'll like this story. Jack Blank has many twists and turns. I am looking forward to the next book.
