But then a tragic accident forces his owner to sell him, and Black Beauty enters a world where horses are treated with bitter violence. Audible Editor Reviews

Despite having been first published in 1877, this is still the perfect book to introduce listeners of all ages to the details of horse care - from food, to gear, to proper treatment. Flo Gibson's spirited delivery is ideal for the rich dialogue and story. The first-person viewpoint is Black Beauty's. Gibson totally inhabits him - from his happy childhood to the harsh times when he's mistreated by cruel or oblivious owners. Particularly moving are his friendship and conversations with Ginger, another horse. Together Sewell and Gibson ensure that the ending is as believable and realistic as all of Black Beauty's life.
