Kane: a "never leave anyone behind" love story

This is book #8 in the Alpha Heroes series, and I’ve been working my way through them in order. I’ve loved every other book – and listened to them all in audio, and found them riveting. I love the Battle Brothers, love what they stand for, and the premise of the books. Kane is a dedicated and loyal warrior for what he believes in, and Alix is another strong and determined heroine.

Kane is a great story of love and never leaving anyone behind. However, I wish I’d have read it as a e-book, where I could skip ahead a little as needed. Kane is still a recommended audio book. Also, I should have listened to this one immediately after the previous Battle brothers’ books. (I had a 3 month gap).

Note that my feeling that the detail was a little too rich and slowed the plot progress, is entirely my take on it. I’m a plot reader and listener, and I like crisper dialogue. There were places where three adjectives were used to describe an item where one would have sufficed, slowing down the pace. Each of us has different tastes, and the great, fast-paced action later more than made up for the first part.

Persevere – it gets much faster paced in the last portion of the audio book, and becomes riveting. It also sets up the next book (Mac) nicely, and I’m looking forward to listening to it.

I do recommend the book, and look forward to listening to the rest of the series. This is my honest review, based upon a free copy.

Action and emotional roller coaster

This is the first book I have read in the series. although it's a standalone, the book starts in the middle of the h and H's story. The story gets filled in snd you are able to fill in and aren't lost, but I can't tell if it's a literary device or I've really missed the beginning of their story from previous books. This book was long and there was lots of action and intrigue. It was more action than romance, per se, since the h and H had a relationship started before the book starts, they just didn't say the word "love" to each other yet. The narrator did a good job. I sometimes wished his voice were a tad lowered because that's how I heard Kane's voice in my head, but it's a minor detail. you can tell the narrator has acting experience.

Great book, kept my attention all the way to the end, amazing audio delivery, loved it. Will be reading again, every chapter was received amazingly do recommend you give it a read.

Captivating!

This is a timely and well-written story about fighting a war under perilous conditions and with a plan so ridden with holes that the military leaders closed down the fighting before making sure that all of our weaponry and personnel were home safely. It's a glimpse inside the madness the military and the Afghan people faced in a disheartening attempt to run to safety. Alix is a doctor in Afghanistan helping the poor, persecuted and helpless of the population. She keeps coming back to help as many of the population as she can, and Kane is sure that she's in danger from the terrorist called Rockstar. Kane is special ops and is at the top of his game, but he also has a court martial in his future for going against orders to save his colleagues. He is back in Afghanistan in an attempt to locate Alix, who's gone missing. He needs to find her to tell her just how he feels. This is a wonderful, bittersweet story that blends reality and fiction into a high powered ride through Afghanistan.
Guillaume Dubois's narration was a little difficult to follow. His voice, pronunciation and syntax are good, but there is no difference, that I could hear, between his male and female characters. I had to concentrate too hard to figure out if it was a male or female speaking through their dialogue. I would definitely look for another book by this author.

OMG...

Ok ..I totally love this series..all the alpha men and bada@@ women GREAT story lines and HEA..but I'm DYING FOR MACS STORY!! So cruel for leaving us hanging lol..We need book 9 NOW!!! I'm going to go through withdrawals 😪

Engaging

Love the story, but wished there were dual narrators. I was lost a few times due to the narrator having the same intonation for all the characters.

This rating covers all 8 books. The stories are good enough for me to have listened to all of them. The narrator was terrible. Bad enough he couldn’t do a female voice. It was hard to remember who was talking. Worse though was his mispronunciation of so many words. Was there even an editor or someone with a working knowledge of the English language who listened to each book before it was released? I hope someone takes action and re-records. These stories are too good to have been ruined by bad narrations.

Superman Complex?

Some of the things in this book were total crap.One man against a hundred? The myth of Kane,the American super soldier ran deep in this one. Alix, the female lead couldn't be bothered half the time to do what Kane told her to do for her safety.
