Taylor Lipin has made it her life's mission to leave her hometown and its ridiculous, century-old feud with the Porters behind. But when her sister needs help running the family inn, Taylor agrees to return to Helen, Alaska on a temporary, definitely not longer than two weeks, basis. Or so she thinks, until she's quite literally swept off her feet and into enemy territory by three happy huskies and their drool-worthy owner, Dr. Josh Krane. Though Josh didn't grow up in Helen with the rest of his Porter cousins, he's heard the stories: Porters rescue huskies. The Lipins are cat people.

Publisher's summary
From the author of Sit! Stay! Speak! comes a tender, terrific novel complete with long-buried secrets, a three-legged potbellied pig, and an irresistible dog - an unforgettable story about love, friendship, and community. Perfect for fans of Mary Kay Andrews and Mary Alice Monroe.
Caroline O'Connor never dreamed she'd be back home in Cold River, Missouri, the Ozark Mountain town where everyone is "up your business"; they mean well as they drive you crazy. She thought she'd left town for good, but now she's back, helping to care for her New York-born mother - struck with Alzheimer's and prone to saying and doing anything - and her father, the beloved local doctor, who's frustrated he can't cure his own wife.
As for Caroline, she's doing just fine coping with her parents, her brazen cousin Ava Dawn's marital disasters, her mostly deaf dog, and Noah Cranwell, far-flung relative of a local family mostly infamous for running moonshine, an ex-veteran who's come to Cold River with troubles of his own.
Caroline believes she knows everything about Cold River and the people who live in its hills and hollers, but sometimes life's greatest surprises happen closest to home.

Story
A summer job. That's all it was supposed to be. It never crossed my mind that I was about to collide with a man who would obliterate every plan I ever made. My mother has always warned me that love is like a lightning bolt and it strikes without warning. But I had no intention of getting struck by either lightning or love anytime soon. I'd be too busy finishing my journalism degree and landing a job in a city far more sophisticated than Phoenix. There was certainly nothing in the cards about getting involved with an ex-ballplayer turned nightclub boss.

But visitors don't always see what lies at the heart of a community. Or just beyond.… June Hudson grew up in Grace Valley, the daughter of the town doctor. Leaving only to get her medical training, she returned home and followed in her father's footsteps.

He loves his job as an independent music teacher and his apartment in Baltimore above a record shop called Charm City Rocks. Most of all, he loves his brainy teenage son, Caleb. Although not the world’s most traditional parent, Billy has plenty to teach his son about art and manhood before Caleb goes off to college. Margot Hammer, on the other hand, is far from happy. Just fine with Caroline
This was a pretty good, but the characters were entertaining in the story was really neat. A lot of different things going on there was just some inconsistencies first the dog would be at the shop then the dog would be at her house and it wouldn’t make any sense. Also, there were some inconsistencies with the timeline about when her brother died how old he was and how long he had been dead by the time her parents had her. Someone who is detailed like me, just gets annoyed by the inconsistencies.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
