Clarity and simplicity

Easy listening and contradictory to information that I learned in
my youth. In my belief system the material in todays thinking is truth without the vail.
Peace. Lou.

What are we missing?

The author points out the radical changes we need to make in our lives. Practicing full-blown forgiveness as Jesus encourages us to is pretty daunting and scary. Yet, this is what we need to reach a peace that is surpassed only by the peace of heaven.
I prefer Fr Rohr reading his own work because of the nuances he interjects into the presentation. But this narrator was pretty good. There is another different narrator that doesn’t do justice to the thought processes and logic of the author.

Tough chew. Read best when hungry.

The gospels give ample challenge to any of us who want 'comfortable' religion.
The beatitudes, in particular, frame Jesus' invitation (challenge) to the practice of faithful living.
Richard Rohr takes great effort here to help us explore the facets of cultural, linguistic, personal/social, and spiritual intricacies of the content and the context of the Sermon on the Mount.
Enjoy!
I already anticipate a rereading. Especially chapters 8, 9.

Excellent while challenging to the current culture and to our illusions

Good news but also tough love challenging each of us and all of us to transform - to embrace the truth and wisdom of faith, hope and Love in our lives and in our actions. What is real, what endures, who are we, who is our God? The life and teachings and examples of Jesus - the manifestations of Love in action give hope and peace despite the too frequent failures of organized religions to reflect the Path of Love and acknowledgement of the Universal Christ in the sacred Universe created by and given freely by our Loving God Energy. The Good news - we all belong and we all have the freedom to become a part of the Eternal Plan of Growth, Healing Change and Joyous Peace. Thanks be to God - our Father/Mother and Ultimate Healer. Thanks for this beautiful book.

Fr Rohr presents …

A difficult plan, of a sort. Does he advocate everyone growing his own food in New York City? Has he flown on a plane, drove a car, etc. How about modern medicine’s antibiotics, cancer drugs, joint replacement to name a few. The Lord put us in the century we are in, and let us understand helpful ways etc.
What should we do if another country invades and want to destroy us? How can we spread the Word when dead?
Father, you appear to want to “ throw the baby out with the bath water”! I am also disappointed the book didn’t state each Beatitude and speak directly about that one. Book was a muddle, sad to say.

Insightful interpretation with excellent historical perspective

I ordered this book based on having read other books by the same author. Clear and concise presentation. Rohr puts each element of this well known scripture into historical context while giving commentary on how the Sermon on the Mount applies to our daily lives and globally to our troubled world. He provides sensitive insights and hope filled analysis along with some disturbing observations about some past misrepresentations of some passages.
This would be an excellent read for any person wishing to broaden their view beyond traditional interpretations of scripture .
