Publisher's summary

Free-spirited and easygoing Taylor Vandenberg left her hometown of Faircombe, Tennessee, as soon as she could, and in the twenty-five years since, she has rarely looked back. She wouldn't change anything about how her life has turned out—having traveled to nearly every country, never staying anywhere long enough to feel stifled. Very few things can hold her attention back in Faircombe: her sister/best friend, her precocious niece, and perhaps the prospect of riling up Brooke Watson.

Brooke has known Taylor for her entire life, given that her best friend is Taylor's younger brother. And a lifelong knowledge of Taylor means that Brooke knows she's trouble: irresponsible, takes nothing seriously, and irritatingly attractive. Unlike Taylor, Brooke loves their town so much that she's spent her adult life dedicated to making sure it doesn't get swept away like many of the other declining small cities of the American South. Faircombe means the world to her, and she's willing to do just about anything to make sure it flourishes.

Even if it means working with Taylor, whose path seems to continuously be crossing with Brooke's everywhere she turns....

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyed The Story, Characters, Charm And Evolution Of Both Main Characters.

This is a well written charming love story with characters that you will love! The small town feel was a great setting for a long term friendship and attraction of the main characters, Charlotte and Sutton. As a mature woman, I appreciated the late thirties (ages) of the main characters and the evolving dynamics of their admiration and love for each other. I enjoyed the audio version of this delightful story and have to acknowledge the excellent narrator, whose performance was on point. I will continue to follow and enjoy this author who captures the humanity with her writing skills.

Funny and charming

I loved the sense of humor throughout the story. Great character background and development. Would love to see it made into a romantic comedy

Haley Cass has written another instant favorite

The tug and pull of the main characters as they learned more and more about each other had me in tears through the entire book. I'd say if you liked Cass' past books you'd like this one but oh my god. The family and side characters are so well done, I could easily see other books written in this same town. You fall in love not just with Brooke and Taylor, but all the characters. I became so invested in Marisa(sp)'s crush on Savanna that honestly my only complaint is there just wasn't enough. I could've easily spent twice as long with these characters.
Just finished it and I'm just so full of emotion.
Anastasia Watley doesn't do the kind of voices you get from Lori Prince or other staples in wlw genre, but wow. After the first chapter I wasn't missing it. Absolutely blew me away with her performance. She does just enough subtle variations that with an auditory processing disorder, I had no trouble telling her characters apart.
Cannot recommend enough.

Great story

I loved Haley Cass other books but I have to admit I was hesitant to buy this book due to the length of it, then I saw it was Anastasia Watley as the narrator and I had to admit that's how I decided it was the right call.

I enjoyed this book so much, the characters are settled into their dinamics I feel and it is the progression of their interactions what makes you come back for more. It's definitely the time the author gives in between, while always keeping us on the loop of what the character is experiencing, that makes the story strong, and sweet and lovely.

Gonna miss these gals

As a fan of love stories of all kinds, I wasn’t stressed over the slow burn promise. But I can’t say it was slow at all XD it had pretty much kept centered around these twos affections from the start. Only at one point, a some hours near the end, was there a moment it felt like some of the introspective stressing drama of the problem at hand was weighing a tad thin, it was still a worthwhile ride. Most books I try to find at least around the 7-9hr range as my minimum. This rolled much the same, in all the best ways, only with us to get to know the girls a little more and longer. Happy to have listened. ^^

Good Story Telling!

I forgot that I actually read the book awhile back so this would be my second reading. All in all, a great story. Just a tad slow paced. Forever and A Day and Those Who Wait by the same author I can honestly say are a bit better. Recommend.

Very good

The writing was excellent and didn’t feel like 16 hours at all. The narrator was also very good. As someone from the south, I hate the over-the-top, extremely offensive southern accents that a lot of narrators use. I appreciate that not being the case in this book.

It's a pleasant listen.

This story is solid, home-y vibes. I have a couple nitpicks, but I get why those things are in the story.

The story is a bit slow, but mostly because it's a bit out of my age range. (Especially when her other book that's longer than this one doesn't feel slow to me.)

I can definitely say I'm a new fan of this author after listening to two of her books. Though I'll probably feel the need listen to a shorter one in order to really form a stronger opinion around their work. I'm looking forward to it.
