Publisher's summary

“A frothy confection of sea foam, young love, and derring-do.” (NPR)

A young prince must rely on a mysterious stranger to save him when he is kidnapped during his coming-of-age tour in this swoony adventure that is The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue meets Pirates of the Caribbean.

Prince Tal has long awaited his coming-of-age tour. After spending most of his life cloistered behind palace walls as he learns to keep his forbidden magic secret, he can finally see his family’s kingdom for the first time. His first taste of adventure comes just two days into the journey, when their crew discovers a mysterious prisoner on a burning derelict vessel.

Tasked with watching over the prisoner, Tal is surprised to feel an intense connection with the roguish Athlen. So when Athlen leaps overboard and disappears, Tal feels responsible and heartbroken, knowing Athlen could not have survived in the open ocean.

That is, until Tal runs into Athlen days later on dry land, very much alive, and as charming - and secretive - as ever. But before they can pursue anything further, Tal is kidnapped by pirates and held ransom in a plot to reveal his rumored powers and instigate a war. Tal must escape if he hopes to save his family and the kingdom. And Athlen might just be his only hope....

Highly recommend

I was really excited for the release of this book because of the cover art and it didn't disappoint. All of the characters both big and small are likeable and relatable, which is something I have lately had a hard time with when it comes to LGBTQIA+ romances.

Tal and Athlen are both amazing and well developed main characters and the ensemble cast is also really good.

The narration was pretty good too. I look forward to reading more from this author and will be looking into there other books.

The climax is probably the best part of the book in my opinion, it was really wonderful.

Absolutely Incredible

It would be nothing short of homophobic to not love this book. The story was incredible and tense. The characters were well developed. The love between Athlean and Tal was gentle and sweet. Undoubtedly my new favorite book and an amazing pick for any LGBTQ+ teen readers/listers out there.

Could not stop listening till the end

I had been in a mood for an LGBT fantasy with a sweet romance that doesn't feel overwhelming, and In Deeper Waters hit all the right spots. I felt for the characters in their darkest times, I loved the sweet relationships of friends, family, and lovers that the author has beautifully crafted, and the plot, though simple, kept me interested in wanting to hear more. Some of the characters' voices did feel a little out of place, for a lack of a better word, though overall I think the narrator did a wonderful job, especially with voicing Tal. Definitely glad I picked up this audiobook, and I'm intrigued to listen to more from the author!

good LGBT fantasy.

a fun twist on a classic mermaid fairytale. the use of magic is captivating, and described in a very interesting way. the story kinda slowed down in the middle, but didn't linger too long.
The romance was sweet and believable, but they did fall in love quite fast.

Cute romance for middle grade/ YA audience

I think my issues with this book largely stem from the fact that it is geared towards middle school to high school age readers and i'm in my thirties. I had issues with pacing and I wanted more romance than I got, but I mean it has pirates, shape shifters, political intrigue, chases, escapes, true love - what's not to like. the relationship is very sweet and I would still totally recommend this to readers in the appropriate age range.

Absolutely Amazing!

This has been an amazing story to enjoy and be in the edge of my seat listening to.

The romantic chemistry these two leads have and all of Tals family have just been so amazing to get to know. Kevin did a wonderful job getting into the spirit of each character so that I could visualize everything more clearly even though some character inflections were accidentally forgotten.

I recommend this greatly.
