Publisher's summary

After hundreds of years of dying, you'd think I would've perfected it by now....

One moment I'm a heretical priest in the twelfth century, hunted, hated...the next, I'm waking up in the nearest corpse. Stuck in a cycle of instant reincarnation, popping back up like a tarnished penny.

Fast forward 800 years, and you might think I’ve learned a thing or two. Nope. All I've learned is how to die far too easily, far too often.

Now my territory in the South of France is under threat and I find myself trapped by impossible angel-made runes. If the angels have gone full red lightsaber evil, it might not only be my territory in danger, but the whole of reality itself....

I need to stop whoever is behind this, and now. After all, you can’t come back to life, if there’s nothing left to come back to.

imPerfect Magic is the first book in The imPerfect Cathar series, a darkly funny supernatural suspense following a trio of immortal heretics. If you can't wisecrack while death is on the line? Well...perhaps you're not dying right.

This book contains strong language, dark humor, and graphic violence.

Interesting story but perhaps hire a narrator.

I liked the story enough to listen to another but I think it would have been better with a pro narrating

Super fun dark romp

I truly loved this audio book- not my usual genre, well worth my time and yours.

Finally! A book I didn’t figure out before the reveal!

Having been a discriminating connoisseur of fantasy fiction for years, this was a pleasant surprise- an original story, perfectly flawed characters and as an added bonus, a vivid storytelling experience by the artist who crafted the tale!
As I have often said when recommending this audio book to friends, I thoroughly enjoyed trying to decipher the plot. I was certain, CERTAIN that I had it all figured out no less than five times…and I was certainly incorrect all five times. I had to stop what I was doing, sit down and listen- then do the proverbial face palm as all the pieces fell into place with a most satisfying conclusion.
I highly recommend this book, this series, whatever breakfast cereal this author/performance artist partakes of- a witty, darkly comic adventure that is worth your time.

Missing The Dresden Files?

Burned through The Iron Druid?
Then you'll want to add this to your list.
All the magic, humor, high stakes, of a Dresden book with enough real history to make it its own. Mr. Rowan reads the audio himself. It took a moment to get used to his style, and at the start he read dialog more naturally than narration but when the story gets tense he delivers. And you have no choice but to be on the edge of your seat.

The narration…

As much as I tried to like it, the narration grated my mind. The story, I think , was shaping up nicely but I just couldn’t listen to it anymore after giving it a chance for a couple hours.

First person gorefest other than that it’s excellent.

Ok, I actually like the plot and the story and the characters and the setting. I like the way the history of the characters gets mixed into the storytelling. In fact I think I may read some of the other books but I won’t listen to them. The author /narrator is good, but the revelry in the gore is way too over the top for me. The gore doesn’t add to the story and the narration of the gore and other general suffering is a little too enthusiastic for my taste.

Great Caharacters and Story

I truly enjoyed the experience and appreciated how CN Rowan explained how he related the locations and events to history. I very much look forward to the journey ahead.

Hire a narrator!

The story is good and the characters are interesting, but for the love of Mike, hire a narrator! Most authors really shouldn't read their own book (except for Neil Gaiman, who is great). Rowan is not a good narrator and he really takes away from the story. I can imagine this if Ray Porter or Jefferson Mays did this book - would be MUCH better!
