Publisher's summary

DK Audio presents the audiobook edition of I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story, written and read by Anthony Daniels.

Including a foreword written and read by J. J. Abrams and a selection of music from the Star Wars films, composed by John Williams.

"The odds of me ever writing a book were approximately...Oh, never mind. My golden companion worries about such things - I don’t. I have indeed now written a book - telling my story, in my voice, not his - recognising that our voices and our stories are inextricably intertwined."

When Star Wars burst on to the big screen in 1977, an unfailingly polite golden droid called C-3PO captured imaginations around the globe. But C-3PO wasn’t an amazing display of animatronics with a unique and unforgettable voice-over. Inside the metal costume was an actor named Anthony Daniels.

In this deeply personal memoir, Anthony Daniels recounts his experiences of the epic cinematic adventure that has influenced pop culture for more than 40 years. For the very first time, he candidly describes his most intimate memories as the only actor to appear in every Star Wars film - from his first meeting with George Lucas to the final, emotional days on the set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

With a foreword by J. J. Abrams, this audiobook is a nostalgic look back at the Skywalker saga as it comes to a close. I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story reveals Anthony Daniels’ vulnerability, how he established his role, and what he accomplished, and it takes listeners on a journey that just happens to start in a galaxy far, far away.

In the 45 years since George Lucas's interstellar fantasy epic Star Wars first hit theaters, the saga has grown to include 12 canonical feature-length films (and counting), a growing number of shows (both animated and live-action), and hundreds of novels and comics inspired by that galaxy far, far away. But there's nothing quite like the magic of a Star Wars audiobook. The stories featured in this collection are as vast and varied as the universe in which they're set.

A great retrospective but...

I enjoyed the behind the scenes stories and views I've never heard anywhere else, and it was nice to hear that familiar voice again but...

He's a bit whiny. The whole thing comes across as "oh, poor poor me" at times. I get it and I sympathize, but it's gets old.

Still, I liked most of it. Just brace for the downtrodden.

Great insight to the world of Star Wars

Anthony may not be a classically trained writer, but the resulting structure makes this story even more approachable and relatable. His narration is the hallmark of this work - having the real voice of C3-PO followed by fantastic versions of George Lucas, Mark Hamil, etc. We loved the stories told and it made us feel closer to the stories of Star Wars and a deeper affection to C3-PO and the man inside the droid. Highly recommended!

A Very Enjoyable Experience

Form the moment I heard Anthony Daniels speak, I knew that this would be good. And I was right. The remarkable story of Star Wars, told by C-3PO/Daniels, was an experience that gave new insight into a remarkable world. His journey as the lovable golden droid, from A New Hope to The Rise of Skywalker is one that was both enjoyable to listen to and pleasing. All to often I kept seeing 3PO in my head, narrating the book and telling me this story. This is one for anyone who loves Star Wars, and anyone who just wants a bit more history on a iconic film.

Everything you crave in a beloved actor's bio

Anthony Daniels has written and performed the most satisfying autobiography I've heard in forever. His brisk narrative talks about what you crave to hear - Star Wars. The movies, behind the scenes, the people and moments you want to know more about. So many auto bios become tedious self indulgent home movies about people and places you have no connection with. But Anthony's story feels like a lovingly selected Christmas gift from someone who appreciates and understands his fans because they love and appreciate him.

I was 15 in 1977 and remember my first astonished thrills of seeing the gold robot and his rolling companion caught up in the same exciting bewilderment I was experiencing. This book made me feel like i just had a lovely afternoon with Anthony Daniels listening to his best stories about the saga I have loved for decades.

Amusing. Honest but never cruel. Brilliantly narrated. I enjoyed this work immensely.

Thank the maker

I loved hearing from Anthony Daniels about his experiences both inside and outside the costume. I’ve always been a fan of his performances in the films and seeing him at Star Wars in Concert. This is an amazing book!

Anthony Daniels really is the soul of C-3PO

I was a casualty of the early 80s invisibility campaign of the droids. I knew it wasn't actually a robot, but I thought the person inside was a stand-in, told how to move and walk, nothing more. Now I realize that C-3PO is eternally intertwined with Anthony Daniels. He is the heart and soul of the golden droid. Really glad to have come across this audiobook.

excellent read

I love the inside from Anthony I love to hear the Side Stories and I feel very bad or how he was treated I don't think many people do this or they would have corrected it promptly. I was depressed throughout the entire book to hear C-3PO and Anthony talk about a childhood love of mine he didn't trust me so much I went on and bought 30 pictures book and I'll be listening to last night I recommend this book I leave for any Star Wars fan
