Publisher's summary

Lodan Vorkan has been called many things in his lifetime—perfectionist, control-freak, monster.

As one of the Kordolian Military's infamous First Division, he's one of the most feared warriors in the Nine Galaxies. As a pilot, his skill is unmatched. He doesn't like the unpredictable, and humans are exactly that.

One by one, he's seen his brothers fall to these confounding creatures. Even the most battle-hardened and ruthless of them have succumbed to the Mating Fever.

Humans are trouble. Humans bring chaos. Always.

When he encounters the strange human called Tasha, all his warning alarms go off. She isn't anything like the other humans. She's faster, stronger—artificially so. She has secrets; she tells lies.

A trail of blood-scent lingers around her. She is not the kind of human he would imagine as his mate. But Lodan's control is about to be sorely tested—in more ways than one.

Contains mature themes.

Two Peas in a Pod

I was glad that Tasha got her book and we now know her backstory. This was so exciting because she got the perfect Kodolian for her. They were a perfect match , two peas in a pod.

Badass Kordolians

I liked the storyline; the Kordolians are badass; so cool and calm, yet a force to be reckoned with. I like that Lodan was able to maintain his cool despite Tasha’s lashing out b/c he knows she is his mate and she had issues. J.F. did a great job with narration. Will continue listening to the series.

enjoyed!

a little different then the rest, focused more on Tasha then Lodan. her story was interesting and she was pretty badass on her own. only really got a small glimpse into Lodan's past. was always curious about him connecting to the ships better then anyone else so that was cool. it seems to be opening up into a wider story arch going forward. can't wait for the next book. I enjoy j f Harding's narration, he's the reason I started the dark star series on audiobook, I read dark planet warriors.

def not the best in the series

the DSM spinoff/ continuation in unfortunately not written linearly; several of the books happen at the same time and this willy nilly approach has lead to continuity errors galore. it is also much harder to feel any sort of plot progression with all of the overlap, which makes the read pacing feel slow. I much prefer the chronological approach of the original series, but, love the world so much I am sticking it out regardless.

Boring!...Boring!!...Boring!!! :(

We absolutely Loved the Dark Warrior series that this series came from but we've been so displeased in this series. We keep listening in hopes of a better book to come, but so discouraged & not sure when to give up!!! Close to it now!! If next book isn't better we're done!

They can't all be good...

This is my least favourite of all 14 books in both series. I kept rooting for Tasha to die. She was a liability from beginning to end. And she was a total Scully, like wtf will it take to make you stop doubting? Lodan, on the other hand, was the lamest of all the 1st division warriors (all that “prettiness” must’ve messed with his brain). She physically abused him over and over.

This book doesn’t even start until chapter 26 or 27. It had a ton of filler. A lot of useless description, internal monologue, repetition - and all of it was right in the middle of the action. So frustrating. Finally, when the the sisters backstory came, it was shoved into the LAST chapter. It felt really rushed and pretty unbelievable. I personally think that Tasha (the character) was a response to fan complaints about the female leads being so ridiculously moral, they constantly stop their mates from killing eugenicists, psychopaths, and assassins because ‘killing is bad’™️. No! What’s bad is when when an author interferes with the karmic loop. If only Carven had managed to make Tasha bloodthirsty AND likeable… It would have been a tightrope to walk (write) but totally doable.
