Publisher's summary

A heartfelt, hands-on guide to setting boundaries, increasing productivity, and finding fulfillment for teachers who know that their classrooms won’t thrive unless they do.

Over time, teachers internalize myths about their success that cause them to fall out of love with teaching.

“I’ll never be one of the 'perfect' teachers’”
“My self-worth is defined by my students’ test scores”
“The only way to get it all done is to work on weekends”

How to Love Teaching Again kicks these myths to the curb and replaces them with practical tips to defeat burnout, overcome perfectionism, and restore the joy of teaching.

As the CEO of Not So Wimpy Teacher, one of the most popular teaching resource brands on the internet, Jamie Sears has spent years designing tools and inventing strategies that restore the joys of teaching. This book offers simple step-by-step strategies that have helped thousands of teachers around the country transform their relationship with work, including:

  • Reinventing small groups and centers so that they’re easier to manage—and so you don’t feel like you’re spread thin
  • A foolproof productivity system just for teachers, including a life-saving method for batching lesson plans
  • Scripts for establishing boundaries that will drastically reduce the time you spend lesson planning, responding to emails, and planning extracurriculars

Our education environment is often stacked against teachers—from insufficient funding and mandatory meetings to red tape and standardized testing. Drawing on real-life struggles from the teachers who have used Sears' strategies to overcome burnout and make the most of their time, How To Love Teaching Again will give you specific steps to stop drowning in to-dos and do the work that inspires you.

Thankful

I am going into my 10th year teaching, and this couldn’t have come out at a better time. I look forward to putting many of these practices into place in the coming year. Thank you!

Breath of fresh air…

As I am trudging through my 15th year of teaching and watching so many wonderful humans leave the teaching profession, I began to wonder… I am doing enough? Am I burnt out? Why can I never stay caught up, for God sake, I am not a brand new teacher anymore?!? This is what led me to this book, and it was the perfect fit. It made me analyze my why and gave me steps to love teaching again without giving MORE! I am already tapped out. It was just what my teacher heart needed. I would recommend this for all walks of teacher life: brand new babes, to seasoned teachers, to one’s near retirement, and everything in between!

Wow

I needed this book so much! This is what every teacher needs to hear! Today was hard for me so I decided to listen to this book instead of something else and it made me feel like I can do this job I love.

Valuable Advice, Timely Read

This is a great book! Jamie brings important questions to light and encourages meaningful reflection. I loved the stories and the sharing of ideas from other teachers. While we can't solve all of education's problems in one book, this is a great way to keep teachers in the career they love and start on the road to change. I think it would be incredibly worthwhile to have administrators and other school leaders read this so that they have an understanding of what daily life is like in the classroom.

Good Advice

I think this is great advice for new teachers. It just was not what I was expecting it to be. I guess since I’ve seen it advertised for so long and have it pre-ordered for over a month, I was hoping for some miraculous new advice to make my teaching life easier/better. I possibly set my expectation too high. But, with that being said, the advice and strategies she gives are wonderful advice for new teachers or teachers who are struggling. I just thought it was going to be different. With the information she writes in this book I definitely recommend purchasing the physical book and not the audible so that you have it all written out in front of you to put in to place.

This is a great read for teachers!!

This book not only gives tactical things you can do to save yourself time and energy but it also helps relieve teachers of the stress we put on ourselves. This book is written by an actual classroom teacher who is also a mom, so she gets the juggling act! I learned some helpful tips in this book! She also gives free resources.

Fine for elementary

This is another book that gears itself toward elementary ed., by a teacher who has left the profession….telling us to love teaching again. In all honesty, couldn’t even finish once that was shared.

Nothing New

As a teacher of over 20 years, I did not find this to be anything new. I thought I was going to get some new information or ideas that I had not been doing. I did not find the "LOVE" of teaching any different from what I had before reading the book. No new inspiration for me. I would recommend Angela Watson "40 Hour Teacher Workweek" if you are looking for inspiration and great ideas.
